Rumor: QB Gunner Kiel delays decision because of Michigan

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

The Scout boards are blowing up right now about a rumor.  Based on the paywall policies, I won't go into much detail.  But the facts are this:  Gunner Kiel was set to announce Sunday.  This decision has been delayed.  The rumor is that Michigan might have something to do with that.  Conventional wisdom had been that after Gunner watched Shane throw at the OSU elite 11 camp, he cooled on Michigan, and was likely going to pick Oklahoma.  But I guess, we're not done yet.

Still might be tough to land, but something to keep an eye on.  If he visits, there's Hoke.

Stay tuned...

As long as Kiel (hopefully) is the only QB in this class and Morris is the only QB in the next class, I dont see either of them getting scared away. If Kiel and Morris were going to be in the SAME recruiting class I do think that eventually one would end up looking elsewhere, however that is not the case in this hypothetical situation.  Most highly rated QB recruits understand that there are going to be scholarship QBs already on the roster of any team they choose, and there are going to be more scholarship QBs that will commit to the school they chose in the following recruiting classes.  I really hope Gunner chooses Michigan, that name is too Bad Ass, especially for a QB. GO BLUE!!!

I mean, you can't turn the guy down if he comes but...too many cawks in the hen house is never a good thing.

Description on Scout pay-walled article with Gunner Kiel's picture next to it: "A credible rumor has some Wolverine recruiting fans all a-twitter -- does it have credence?" Does anyone else find that sentence to be hilariously hilarious?

It looks like the Michigan rumors might have been false. According to Miles Fomby's Twitter

Miles Fomby: QB Gunner Kiel not deciding on Sunday tells me he was planning on committing to Alabama then a trip to Norman made him rethink some things.

In fairness though, that doesn`t indicate that he`s talked to Kiel. He may be right but the thing with Kiel is that he plays things very close. Doesn't do a lot of interviews, has never released a list, has no real outside advisors. I don't think anyone but his family is going to know for certain where he's going until he announces. In any case, if he holds off then that can only be good for us because consensus seemed to be he wasn't picking us if he announced this weekend.

i kind of hope we don't take a qb in this class and take 2 wr.  I know we have a lot of wr, and no disrespect to them, but how many after this year are elite wr?  maybe none.  we know that barring injuries you only need one elite qb, but you need more than one really good wr, how else are we going to have 2 wr with over 1500 yards?

This year we should be fine, as well as next year. But it's the year after that, 2013, that could be troubling. If we don't get a couple guys in this class then our upperclassmen that year would be Jeremy Jackson I think and a few underclassmen. So yeah, WR is a big priority if we want depth after 2012

God this is dumb. You people have been scout/rivals members for all this time, and still don't realize they do this shit just for page views and more subscribers? My favorite is the "stay tuned" at the end of the post, as if everyone shouldn't leave their keyboard until this non-issue is resolved. This board would be better if all the dumbasses just decided to stay over at Scout.
