RR doesn't know his future....so why not play like it

Submitted by preed1 on

I want to start this with saying I am a firm believer in RR and really want to see him stay.

With RR in charge of the team and always giving Michigan the best chance to win, why not play Devin Gardner if needed? If he knew the future of himself at Michigan, I am sure he would have Gardner assume the Coner position fotr the entire game, but he doesn't know so why not put him in if it call for hime...EVEN if it is for one play.

Remember the UConn and ND games where Devin was in one play and handed it off? I would be furious if we were to burn Devin's redshirt on a handoff. I don't care if this is RR's last game, but if he is going to play Devin, Denard better be out for longer than a play or two. Otherwise, I think the coaches would be doing the program a favor by throwing Kennedy or Gallon in.

F that. I want him to coach to win the game. If that means that Gardner blows his redshirt, so be it. RR is a competitive guy, he's going to coach to win today, not to keep some player around 3 years from now.

I agree with michgoblue.  For all the attacks on the guy, he hasn't made selfish dick moves.

He'll play Devin if he needs to to win.

Heck, if RR gets canned, the experience might not be all bad for the program if Devin plays a substantial amount if the doomsday scenario occurs and Tate stays ineligible/transfers and Denard follows RR.

Devin will be 1,2,3 on the depth chart save Kennedy and whatever qb recruits we get.

If it's just for one play I see no reason why we couldn't call a timeout, insert gallon, insert Kennedy, go wildcat, or even punt and play defense

<br>There are half a dozen "creative" things we can do to let Denard get a small break. If he's going to miss more than one series though, I think you HAVE to burn DGs redshirt unless we are up by 21 or more.

One day eventually retiring on millions of dollars that he will eventually pass along to his blessed and privilidged children from the fruits of his very successfull coaching career wherever it takes him.

RR might come out of this ok.

Fact is RR is going all out to with no holds barred to win this game I'm sure in part to keep his mailbox in AA.  However, if Denard needs to be spelled for a few snaps or even for a series or two I'd rather see JG on the field over DG.   Having DG burn his redshirt for a few minutes of game action seems to be a bad investment  - especially if we are handling MSU like our lazy brother-in-law's pesty pooch.  Now if it's obvious that Denard must miss a large chunk of playing time, should such a negative thing happen, with the game on the line, then maybe DG should be sent in to win the game.  Come on Denard - full game baby!
