RR's legacy if...

So lets just assume this year is a wash. Forget it. Don't count it at all. If after this year lets say over the next 8 years. RR does this: -1 National Championship -5 Big Ten titles -4 BCS Bowl games -5 Season of 10+ Wins -Never more than 2 Big Ten losses -5-3 Bowl Record -4-4 Record VS OSU - Hell lets throw in 1 Heisman Trophy After this year, if over the next 8 RR did this, would you be happy with the success?

Is this a serious question? Even when Michigan was at its most dominant they didn't put up those numbers(in the modern era) I guess the only thing that you might have issue with is the 4-4 against ohio state, since we all want to beat them more than 50% of the time, but still. If he hits those numbers he will go down as one of the better michigan coaches ever, even including last year's crapfest.

I feel that if RichRod had all those other accomplishments, including a Heisman trophy winner, his record against OSU would be better than 0.500. Since you put a NC in there I'd be happy. If that wasn't there I would be less satisfied (but still happy). But, if you took out the NC andimproved the record against OSU to 6-2 then I'd probably still be happy. Truthfully, I'm hoping for better than this though, but that's partially because I expect RichRod to be here longer than 8 years. In terms of my expectations for the next 8 years specifically though, I'd take this.

I think you mean years 3-10. Year 11 would include 2005 where we lost 3 games in the Big Ten and would throw off the records you mentioned against OSU/Bowl Opponents. Also, Michigan had the 3rd highest winning percentage in the country over that span (behind FSU and Miami). Everybody should want to take that in a heartbeat.

what have you done for me lately. I'd be willing to bet that a very small percentage of Michigan fans disliked Lloyd Carr in 2004. IME, most fans' frustrations started to simmer in 2005. And it turned to a boil after Appy State in 2007. So yeah, I believe most Michigan fans would be delighted with the successes enjoyed during those eight Lloyd Carr years.

to records I am looking at... For sure he did well... lets face it, he had a .750 win percentage, right...? But, as has been discussed ad nauseum here, the marginal decline in performance, especially in big games, rivalries, and also, lack of utilizing players skills and opened it up (he finally did during Florida game). RR will have plenty of success and will build his own legacy, maybe he will be nicknamed the "Michigan Phoenix".? Now that's a thought.

This really is the best case scenario for Rich over the next eight years, if he does better than 4-4 against OSU in that time frame he will for sure be remembered as one of the greatest coaches ever at Michigan.

We are talking about a school whose coach has won 80% of his games, four consecutive Big Ten titles and has beaten us seven out of eight times. Going .500 against him from here on out (I'm not sure how much longer Tressel will continue) would be a terrific accomplishment.

Tressel's last four wins against Carr were because Carr lost his edge as a result of the game passing him by. UM had a 10-2-1 record against OSU from 1988-2000. THAT was a great accomplishment. The momentum in the rivalry can turn in the proverbial twinkling of an eye, and has done so twice in the last twenty years. I think that RR has a good chance of going 6-2 against Tressel in the next eight years if Tressel insists on going old school while everyone else, including UM, is evolving.

Is who serious? I had to read a150 reply thread on Dantonio being the next Carr. I just thought his record was worth reflecting on. Now these throw out the first two 8-4 years and the last few seasons that were sloping down. I don't disagree with anything stated above. I truly belive Michigan has a genuine elite run in it. Ala USC , maimi a few years back etc. A 2-4 year run of 11-2 12-1. Let's just remember how sucsessful the program has been recently and not hand Dantonio or anyone else the record that Michigan put out over that time.

Is there any question? Yeah, I would take that; although, I'd only settle for 2-3 losses to OSU. I'd also toss out the Heisman Trophy for another National Championship/Big Ten Championship.

I think if he were to do what Lloyd Carr did I would consider him to be of the best UM coaches of all time. But to me that should go without saying since I consider Lloyd to be one of the best. I felt at the end of it that it was time for him to move on but that does not change how I feel about what he did as our coach.
