Rose Bowl Insights

Submitted by ReverendBlueJeans on November 27th, 2023 at 12:26 PM

Neg away for my looking ahead, but I've always dreamed about taking my kids to see Michigan play in the Rose Bowl. My dad took me to the '92 game and, despite the loss, it is one of my most vivid memories as a kid.

We live in SoCal now and I've been promising to take my kids once Michigan makes it. This seems like the best shot. Tickets are already going up every day as scalpers snatch them up and I don't want to wait any longer. I know much of it is a guess, but any advice on typical sections/sides, best ticket purchasing app, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly the inventory right now seems pretty sparse. I was able to get good Fiesta Bowl tickets much closer to the game last year (got helped by an MGoBlogger, but if I hadn’t there were seats that were a little more expensive / a little less good readily available).

I’m guessing most seats have yet to hit the market.

The question I have is whether the Rose Bowl being a CFP semi would change the ticket market. Someone who's been recently can weigh in, but IIRC from comments I've seen, for recent Rose Bowls it's been much more economical to buy tickets on the day of the game.

But again, the X factor is the CFP...

This would be a great one as it feels so traditional... vs. Pac-12 winner (most likely), National Championship on the line... who knows if any Rose Bowl will ever feel that way again.

All that said, I'll still sit in terror until we're up 3 TDs on Iowa.

79-81-83-87-89-90-92-93-98-04-05-07; I didn't miss one from the time I was a student until the last one; can't believe it's been 16 years. Unfortunately my streak will be broken...as far as "best stadium in the country," the end zone seats are about a mile away from the playing field. My best seats? 45 yard line 3/4's of the way up for 1998.

I can't advise on how to buy tickets.  But I'll say DEFINITELY take your kids there.  Every Michigan fan should try to attend at least one Rose Bowl in their life.  I've been to 3 and it's always been a great experience.  It's a beautiful location and backdrop for the game.  Tailgating in the golf course outside the stadium is highly recommended.

Considering our faceplant-filled history playing in the Rose Bowl against PAC teams, nobody should consider a game there this year a gimme.

The Rose Bowl is one of my favorite games of the year in terms of tradition and the pure beauty of it. I've ALWAYS wanted to see Michigan in it in the modern era. I'm so stoked at the possibility of it happening. Especially this season. What a time to be alive.

I went to the 97 Rose Bowl and bought 2 relatively inexpensive tkts from a reputable ticket broker who GUARANTEED the tickets..That was BEFORE it became for the national title..so we fly to Calif rental car hotel etc etc 3 days before the game and no tickets..I was freaking out calling frequently and late the night before the game they finally delivered my tickets. Im sure they had to take a beating as the prices were sky high but they delivered and as well all know we WON the National titlle..Ive been to multiple Rose Bowls but this was THE BEST

According to the Rose Bowl website, the higher ranked team will be in the West sideline and North End zone.  So mostly sections 12- 22.

Went to the championship game in the Rose Bowl - the one with Brian Griese and Charles Woodson. So many great memories!

1. Unless there has been major renovations, the tunnels in and out of the stadium are snug, so if you are claustophobic be forewarned. It is modeled after the UM stadium (IIRC) and so that design dates from the 1920s.

2. Traffic was bad then and probably worse now - again, be forewarned. Had to get to LAX right after the game - fortunately it was back in the pre-9/11 days, flew back on Sun Country charter to Metro. This is where a travel agent can still help you - they can tap into these charters where they have odd seats that a package deal hasn't sold out and they will sell you a seat. I know that won't be a problem for you since you live there.

3. The New Years Day Rose Bowl parade is something to consider but ... (a) many of the bands only play when in front of a "TV spot" - a place where there is an active camera, otherwise they just march by, (b) there are a lot of 'horse groups' - I'm not a horse person, so a few teams showing off beautiful horses with a nice trot is fun, but there are a lot of horse groups - it seemed all of southern California horse groups were there, (c) it can be surprisingly chilly in the morning so be ready (d) not many food options at the parade unless you are willing to pay to be in a stand, so if you see a hot chocolate guy or hot dog guy, go and buy a bunch, your friends and family will appreciate it (d) unless you are a parade fanatic, once you've done it once, you'll never want to do it again.

Go Blue and have fun!

I have the same question. Everything else being equal, I assume Michigan would love to play in the Rose Bowl for historical reasons. But if Michigan ends up with the #1 seed against a #4 Washington or Oregon, might they prefer to play in New Orleans instead of on the west coast?

(That would break my heart, as I already have my Rose Bowl tix!)

My brother and I were just talking about this.  If Georgia loses and Michigan goes one seed, there are upsides to playing in New Orleans (less travel/turf/Pac 10 team might have to travel more).  However, my guess is Harbaugh and the team have a sentimental spot for the Rose

Just got mine.

It seems like parking/traffic at the stadium is expensive and a hassle, so maybe better to take the metro blue (A) line in from elsewhere and shuttle to the game?

I don't know LA at all.  We'll be visiting friends in San Diego and coming up NYE.  Best neighborhoods?  Best to avoid?

Anywhere on the blue line would be good I'd guess, even out west to Azusa? Little Tokyo/Arts district looks promising.

TIA

Last year, Fiesta Bowl ticket prices peaked in the hours after the selection show . Of course, that when I bought them. I wonder if this will be the same dynamic this year.
