Road games

Submitted by Heywood_Jablome on

Have to wonder if this is starting to carry over from the Hoke era...considering a lot of these guys were his players.  No clue why this team seems so soft on the road.  It's like night and day...and it's starting to get scary.

What's more troubling is that this is a team full of upperclassman, where you would expect better performance on the road.

Does not bode well going into Columbus.  I figured we had a good chance to win that game, now I'm struggling to figure out a way we win it...especially if Speight is hurt.

on our schedule all on the road, @ State, @Iowa, @ Ohio State. We passed one test, and didn't bring the same intensity that Iowa brough in the second test. Pound Indiana and show up against Ohio State and we will be just fine. We have outscored teams on the road 123 - 37 and are 2-1 (breaking the streak at Michigan State). There is no comparison of this team to Hoke's teams. JUST STOP. (IBD)

I'd like to know at what point you pull a quarterback and just sit him down for a series. The coaches design plays for Peppers to the point where it's obvious he is carrying the ball. With 2 capable QB's on the bench why not coach them to come in for a set number of plays for such a time when Speight is struggling or hurt. When you need to go deep send Morris in or you need 3 yards put in O'Korn to run an option. If your QB is struggling to hit the long ball have Morris go in with a second string receiver that he's been practicing all week with-Coach you got the players use them . Tell Morris and O'Korn each of you will be running these set plays in practice and in the game-be ready to go. In the event Speight does get hurt The quarterbacks on the bench we're already getting ready to go. It makes me think of how Ohio State used their QBs when they won the National Championship.

When the regular season is over I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll look back at the Iowa loss as a blessing in disguise.  Harbaugh has been preaching that every game is a championship game.  It was obvious that the guys did not approach Iowa that way and got pushed around.  You get an air of invincibility when you have so many easy wins.  The only really tough game was against Wiscy.  But it was at home.  Making great plays on the road takes extreme concentration, focus and intensity.  We did not have it.  To get better, sometimes you need to get knocked down hard.  This was our wake up call.  We'll be much better for the experience.

This has been my exact outlook/hope after the game. I would obviously have loved to watch them run the table, but would have been nervous going to Columbus without being tested. Hoping that this turns out to be a wake up call and gets them refocused for the home stretch.

I keep hearing how the team was exposed, but I just don't feel like they played too good, and Iowa played their best game yet. Ohio State was supposed to have been exposed after four straight games that they could have lost, one in which they actually did, but they have come back stronger.

^^^ This x 1000!

Championship seasons are often marked by disappointing loses that seem to galvanize the team in a way that wins cannot.  Further, I have to imagine this given that the OSU game in Columbus, this was a good exerience that actually turned out not to matter as Michigan still controls its own destiny.

I hope we look back and say, amazingly, that losing to Iowa was the best thing that happened to this team.

I beg to differ. There is nothing about this team that is like the Hoke team. We just didn't execute yesterday. One completion on one of the long throws to Darboh and this post is meaningless.

Has a clear problem. We continue to underperform at Iowa every time we play there. Why? I sure as hell don't know. I went to the game there Saturday, and yes, it's a raucous environment. But not that bad. My observation was they just didn't show up with a lot of focus and fire. You saw no enthusiasm during the pre-game warmups or when they came onto the field. Why?
