Report: Shaw still questionable for Saturday; Herron good to go
Per Rivals and RR:
Shaw has been limited in practice this week but he should be able to play Saturday; Fitz is still day-to-day, but what else is new.
Brandon Herron is good to go, according to RR.

Herron is big. Hopefully, Roh can get after Cousins now.

I agree that Herron coming back is huge. I am sure how good Mike Jones and Brandon Herron are as LB'ers. I tend to lean that they are ok, but not great, with Mike Jones being better of the two. However, I don't think it is much of a coincidence that we went from a not great, but good enough to win some games this year type of defense, to closing your eyes when they are on the field after ND when Jones and Herron got hurt. Roh having more flexibility to rush the passer is huge.

Roh can concentrate on getting after the QB and there could be a 4 man rush with Roh/Black coming off the edge. As long as Roh doesn't drop back in coverage, I think that it has a positive benefits for Michigan defense with regards to putting pressure on the QB.

HERRON IS BACK!

Sweet! I think this means we will shut them out! 49-0 baby!

Does this mean our defense can now get their much needed Herron fix?

I'm very surprised this post has not received more love. +1

Apparently you really were surprised by the lack of love. One could say doubly surprised.

As someone on sports center used to say "He's day to day, like the rest of us"
October 6th, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
Whats he been playing this year, I cant seem to remember him on the field too often?

with him back, Roh can play DE and RUSH the QB instead of not do very well in pass coverage.

The more bodies we have out there the better on defense.
I really want Shaw out there. I am pretty convinced that Rich Rod trusts no one other than Shaw and Vincent Smith in a game that's not out of reach, and we are going to need those guys to step up to take advantage of all the attention they will be paying Denard.
We're going to learn a lot about our team this weekend, I can't wait.

about Shaw and Smith. I really want them to both play as I believe they will be an important factor in the game. Just another thing for State to have to try to defend.

I think that if Mike Shaw can be pretty healthy for saturday he will have a big game. Out of that option that we will run because you know Greg Jones will be spying Denard all game. and I think Denard will be handing it to his RB shaw or Smith more then he has most of the year, we will find out alot more about this Michigan team after saturday.

I'm ecstatic Herron is back, freeing up Roh. I think this gives us much more variety in 3 & 4 man fronts, BTW.
Regarding Shaw, whatever. The OLine is doing such a tremendous job, it doesn't matter as much who is serving as RB. Sure, he's good, or at least better than the others, but in essence, isn't Denard our number one RB? I'm really waiting for Toussaint. Also think it is too soon to give up on Hopkins and Cox.

Is that the title of the rivals article? From the rest of story he sounds more like probable which is better news
October 6th, 2010 at 3:18 PM ^
Shaw will play. I think this is big. He is clearly the number one guy and will be important when they overload to try to stop Denard. The offense is fully loaded and ready to go.

I spoke with Shaw's brother on Sunday. Apparently, Shaw's bro thought that Shaw was gonna play against IU. Good sign for this week.

That's what I call reporting. Nice work.

Anyone think its odd how a player goes from out one week to most likely playing the next. Maybe RR was resting guys for MSU?

I think this happens more often then not. I have a feeling both shaw and toussaint will be ready to play saturday.. It sure would be nice to have shaw and toussaint in the backfield
