Remaining spots in the class?

Submitted by PrestigeWorldwide on December 20th, 2018 at 12:21 AM

As I bask in the glory of today’s successful signing day, I can’t help but wonder if there will be any late additions to the class. Outside of the expected signings of Q. Johnson and Pesek-Hickson, we may still have 1-3 spots to fill, if the initial 28-30 estimate is right. With that said, do we pick up anyone listed below or other late flyers that I may have missed?

D’Von Ellies-DT that PSU leads for

Tyrece Woods-poosible flip back now that DT is a bigger need?

Isaiah Foskey-ND leads, but still unsigned

John Sanguinetti-M led at one time, but has seemed to have backed off. May not need another S

John Branham Jr-any chance we throw out a late offer on Kalil’s brother; 3* RB

Anyone else on the radar who is still unsigned?

Is he the one who can't stand the cold?  If so, I wouldn't get too excited as he has a bunch of Southern schools after him.

That said, some of these kids need to realize that unless you go to Miami or Gainesville, it gets cold in SEC country. Also, if you plan on playing in the NFL, you will play in some shit cold weather (but I could understand putting that off for 3-4 years to better enjoy your college experience.)

But UT..sorry, it gets fucking cold in Tennessee, and I believe its in/near some mountain air?  So regarding the winter, cold is cold, wether its 15 degrees or 30 degrees, its the same shit.

about 10 years ago a coach in the big brought this subject up, he said every time a recruit complained about the cold his best response was “you want to play in the nfl right? Well half the teams play in the north, are you going to turn down their contract?” He said he it worked every time.   I can’t remember who the coach was that said this.

PSU leads for these two DTs. DBrown and Mattison supposedly favor Harrison-Hunte.

There is a 2018 high four-star Illinois TE looking to transfer from Georgia:

  • Luke Ford, TE **** (2018) 6’ 6”, 248, 0.9753, #51 US, #3 TE, #1 IL

There might be other possibilities lurking in the NCAA transfer portal. What about JUCO transfers – has Michigan ever signed one?

It's not that hard for Jucos to get into Michigan generally. We take them in baseball. It's very hard for football Jucos to get in, because nearly all of them are there because of poor academics. They're just trying to get academically eligible, not taking classes that will transfer to Michigan.

If  there were good football programs at Jucos in Michigan, we probably would be getting some. Those credits are accepted, as long as they're college level classes.

Believe Steve Lorenz said they may be after DT and RB and that’s about it. Sounds like they are willing to “make room” for another 1-2 top guys as well if Ford or Crouch changes heart last minute

No on Tyrece Woods, and no thank you.

I'll say this: Preferred walk-ons can play roles sometimes, and they don't require a 4-year scholarship.

I am of the opinion that we should hold firm unless there is someone that we just can’t pass up. I know that we could technically take one or two or maybe even three more, but there is nothing wrong with not using those scholarships also. To get to that many scholarships we would need quite a few more people to not be on scholarship next year. I’m just hoping we don’t take late fliers on some under the radar guys just because.

Slightly OT, but a sports columnist in this morning's Atlanta paper crowed about how UGA flipped a 4* Michigan HS QB from tOSU to the Bulldogs. The kid's name is Dwan Mathis, a 6'6" 205 QB from Belleville. Did Coach Jim ever have any interest in this kid? Inquiring but recruiting-challenged minds want to know.

Secondarily, UGA's 247Sports Composite-rated #2 recruiting class includes two JUCO transfers, both defensive players. This leads one to ask whether they or several other of UGA's recruiting class would have made it past the UM Admissions office. Just sayin'

Remember that our coaches are very particular about who they recruit. Like most of us, we have character traits we look for in people we want in our inner-circle. If they do not fit or if there are flags that warn us, we move forward with caution. So when it comes to certain players from the State of Michigan, some of them do not fit the mold that the coaches are looking for.

I have learned to trust the process with this coaching staff. I know that is hard for star-gazers but look at the 5* who have burned out and left the program/not developed further.

Yes, there are misses, but that happens everywhere.
