Thanks for the memories, though:

I just might have to go and watch that game again just for the sake of the end of it. :D

streaming is killing redbox
September 8th, 2021 at 10:16 AM ^
Red Box offers streaming. I think MSU and Oregon killed them.
September 8th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
Just because they offer streaming, doesn't mean that streaming didn't kill them. Picking up a DVD at the grocery store used to be the super easy and cheap way to see a movie, which was their whole business model. Now that they stream (news to me, and I have several streaming services), they have no value proposition against the big names.

More bowls absolutely should follow suit. Once teams with losing records started getting bowl games it was abundantly clear there were too many games.

If they got rid of the required university purchased tickets, many of these would go away, but they do sometimes get some sweet TV money

There's no such thing as "too many" college football games. I love having bowl games every night in December, regardless of who is playing. What else is there to watch, Lizard Lick Towing?
September 9th, 2021 at 6:54 PM ^
Basketball, hockey, NFL.
September 8th, 2021 at 10:11 AM ^
Oh man, NOW what am I going to do on December 27th?

Fear not, the Quick Lane Bowl survives!

Not the Onion.

Are you telling me that you don't have circled on your calendar the roofclaim.com boca raton bowl, tropical smoothie cafe frisco bowl, and union home mortgage gasparilla bowl?
Names just roll off the tongue.

How do I live without you?
I want to know
How do I breathe without you if you ever go?
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh, how do I live?

Redbox responds:
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm begging you to beg me
I'll shine up the football park, put on a brand new coat (of paint)
I'll get you tickets for free if you say that you love me
Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?
Oh didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?
Feelin' all alone without a game, you know I feel like dyin'
Oh didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?

Thanks. Haven't been able to shake that song for the past 15 minutes.

In the face of such inimitable wit, I....
... surrender
September 8th, 2021 at 10:16 AM ^
The ultimate indignity would be for Netflix to pick this bowl up as a streaming-only option.
September 8th, 2021 at 10:17 AM ^
Dude, this isn't that crazy of an idea. Prime does it.
September 8th, 2021 at 11:25 AM ^
More like a steaming-pile option.
September 8th, 2021 at 11:53 AM ^
I had no desire to go to Walgreens to watch this game if Michigan was in it.
September 8th, 2021 at 12:02 PM ^
I honestly didn't know there was such a thing as the Redbox Bowl.
September 8th, 2021 at 12:32 PM ^
I was just about to post the same comment (or rather, question). It reminds me of the Aesop's Fable about the bull and the gnat:
A bull was busy grazing in a meadow when a gnat began to buzz around its horns. Finally, after flying around for a bit, the gnat settled down on the tip of the bull's horn for a rest. When it decided to leave, the gnat began to apologize to the bull for the inconvenience he had caused.
“There is no need to worry, I didn’t even notice you,” said the Bull.

I think having a stadium to play in is likely an a important factor for hosting a game.
September 8th, 2021 at 6:16 PM ^
It sounds like some of you guys want to go back to the days when only the Big Ten champion played in the Rose Bowl and everyone else stayed home.
September 8th, 2021 at 10:01 PM ^
Or, and hear me out, a game between 6-6 Miami (YTM) and LaTech that ends in a score of 14-0 just doesn't do it for many people.
Plus, there's a considerable gap between your statement and the notion that losing records should come nowhere close to making a bowl game.
