Highly unlikely as the only guy I ever heard come up was Marcus Allen, a safety commit. If Michigan didn't want Montae though, I do not know why they would go after Allen. No other player has really been contacted by the coaches and none were extremely high on Michigan before picking PSU. I think, and I could be wrong, that only 2 or 3 of their players have a Michigan offer.
Edit: Yeah only 2 guys with offers and neither of them are in PSU's top 3 players. So it's very unlikely Michigan tries to jump in and get any now.

Even if there were top recruits that might be willing to leave PSU, being realistic, I'm starting to have major concerns about Michigan's ability to get talent. I have my fingers crossed that the most recent class holds together through signing day. The program seems to be back sliding and when you look at the last several years, the picture is not very rosy.

To what, the Rodriguez years or talent acquisition?
Can Michigan get talent like those days? Would Chris Rock de-commit from OSU and re-commit? Maybe Davion Rogers, Adrian Witty and Demar Dorsey are available.
Talent acquisition is the last of my concerns.
Now, offensive coordinator role, there is a different question.

top 10 recruiting classes not good enough for you?
January 2nd, 2014 at 9:04 AM ^
Defy reality if you want...those classes came with an 11-2 season, a BCS win and a very bright future. Since then, 8-5 and now 7-6. Last year, you had an argument you could make, but not anymore.
Hand, Campbell, Malik.....isn;t that telling you something?

There is still a top 10 class coming this year. If the Wolverines win next year they will continue getting good recruits. Plus guys will want to play with Peppers.

Of Michigan's 16 commits, 9 are composite 4- or 5-stars. All but a couple are a 4-star to at least one service.

The fact that SOME elite recruits don't want to play at Michigan doesn't change the fact that others do.

If you have major concerns about Michigan's ability to get talent, why are you concerned about this recruiting class holding together? If they're not talented enough for you, no sense worrying about them going elsewhere.

"ability to get talent" ? 1. you don't land everyone, no one does. 2. as a reference MSU wanted most if not all of our players (narrative this year is that they are infallable at judging talent, not chasing stars). 3. Well, I won't say it. Trying to be a little softer this year.

The Michigan bandwagon is large;. plenty of room for those negative to rejoin in future..

Yeah I am sure a bunch will come jumping back on after the Wolverines beat ND in week 2 next season.
January 2nd, 2014 at 11:15 AM ^
Bad example - ND seems to be the only team we beat even when we are bad - but your point stands.
Edit: only "rival" team.

I'm pretty sure that was the joke.

Rereading it now, I'm pretty sure that you are correct. My /s-meter was definitely off on that one.

Talent acquisition isn't the problem. It's inexperience.

I addressed this at TTB last night (LINK). There are only two PSU commitments who had offers from Michigan, and neither one was hotly pursued.

i had never seen your site. Thanks for the link.

Pretty sure O'Brien was the OC. Maybe not necessarily in name, but he was the one calling the plays.

Who cares?? According to some Michigan fans, now that Sparty has won the Rose Bowl, recruits will be lining up to come to Michigan!

As noted by Magnus and others, nobody of note is an option. The rest of the posts here are just rehashing the same complaints and Henny Penny-isms about this team that we've heard about for weeks.

Is the free transfer pass (i.e. transfer without sitting out a year) for Penn State players still good? I doubt this will effect Michigan either way, but just curious if that's still on the table because it could make a difference in how good Penn State is next year and beyond.

I believe that expired last year
And per the OP's question, others answered that it doesn't look like it for M. But in the spirit of Know Your Enemy, there's a kid I saw in the UAAA game named Thomas Holley committed to PSU. His other official visits were Florida and... Ohio. So Meyer may once again gorge on the blood of fallen nittany

...I'm worried about coaching. This past season was an eye opener. Very few players progressed. We frequently looked like different people were on different pages. Brady and his staff had better figure out what happened and correct it. Right now our two biggest rivals are kicking our collective asses.

He's got a much better point than most readers are crediting him for. Most of the great recruits thought 2011 was the truth and 2012 was a "down year." In the few months since 2013's awfulness clear, I'm not sure we've inspired recruits in nearly the same way. Let's see if we continue getting great guys looking forward.
January 2nd, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
This is my first post on the forum in over two years. I was a season ticket holder the past few years and I have followed posts on this blog for quite some time.
At some point as Michigan fans we should no longer worry about the recruit rankings but instead worry why these 4 and 5 star kids are not reaching their potential. Other schools (MSU) seem to be doing a pretty good job identifying 2, 3 or 4 star recruits who are better. The list of recruits that have come through Ann Arbor with hype and then fizzled away is endless. I know all recruits aren't a slam dunk but a top 10 class producing the results we have had the past two years is dissapointing.

While stars do matter, the development of the players is as important.
