There are many nice teams in the SEC you may want to consider following.
November 4th, 2013 at 1:55 PM ^
You can win without embarrasing your team.
We should win and win with pride and class. And if we're going to lose, the players should not make themselves look bad.

Hey AL DAVIS, is that you risen from the grave?
November 4th, 2013 at 1:44 PM ^
Like Tom Gholston.

I hate to say it, but Lewan did pretty much the exact same thing as the Gholston-Denard head twist.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:40 PM ^
Not to mention the egregious holding no call he had against isiah lewis on the play before the head twist.
November 4th, 2013 at 4:09 PM ^
What is the problem with the "egregious holding no call"? It is not his fault a penalty was not called.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:54 PM ^
Besides grabbing a facemask, I don't really see any similarities to Gholston who dove in and yanked the facemask hard and fast. Lewan, while completely and utterly wrong and horrible, just tugged it. Sort of like the difference between whiplash and push in the back
Plus, remember, Gholston was suspended for the punch only, as there is clearly a rule that a punch automatically results in a one game suspension (and he shouldve been kicked out the game). He didn't received any subsequent penalty for the facemask pull (or all the other crap he did that game)
btw... that is a horrible gif. If you are trying to show Lewan is bad, why mess it up with two additional plays that are nothing abnormal? Show the tug and move on.

Take off the Michigan glasses and put on your normal pair. It was just as bad and just as disgusting.
November 4th, 2013 at 3:58 PM ^
as is unfortunately becomming our MO, he will be suspended after a big outcry, which will be both highlight that Michigan got killed, that Lewan did this, that we did not suspend him at first, and only suspended him after the pressure to do so became too much. Always a day late and a dollar short, that is the Michigan difference.
November 4th, 2013 at 4:37 PM ^
Man, the self-loathing is strong.
Yes it was an egregious act and if wasn't flagged it shouldve been but this is no way rises to the level of a suspension. Gholston was suspended for a punch, and a punch only. A despite the rule book and the blatantness of the punch, the so-called Dean of Discipline acted as if Gholston did nothing wrong. That was the outrage. Not one minute of the missed game for Gholston was due to the facemask, the arm bar, etc. Did Lewan punch Allen? No. If the Big Ten steps in and tries to suspend him, it will have vastly overstepped.
November 4th, 2013 at 4:08 PM ^
Take off your MSU glasses, it was bad, but definitely not as bad.
November 4th, 2013 at 5:26 PM ^
I don't remember that part.
November 4th, 2013 at 1:47 PM ^
...that Taylor would have been suspended for at least a half. The words are nice, but don't mean a ton without actions.

November 4th, 2013 at 2:03 PM ^
point, he is going to get suspended, right?

The Big 10 is investigating him. He's probably going to miss some time. Classic hothead, has been one for his career here.

At least 1/2 game. We would demand as much from MSU or OSU.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:21 PM ^
And he's our "leader?!" Maybe that gives us just a bit of an idea why this team is the way it is? He thinks playing dirty is playing "tough." There's a disconnect somewhere.

Michigan has a lot of no-linemen this year. (rimshot!)
November 4th, 2013 at 2:43 PM ^
The original "no-lineman" may have been more appropriate for this season.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:50 PM ^
It's clear Michigan needs to update their offense. I hope that against Nebraska they roll out what I called the Super Spread or 9 wide formation: QB, OC, and 9 WRs.
On the (surely very rare) 3rd and longs, we can switch it up to a Semi-Super Spread with 8 wide and keep an RB in for blocking or screen passes.

I'm not saying I condone his actions, but I get it. Even the best people lose their cool every once in a while. It was embarassing that it was caught on TV multiple times, but I am starting to feel bad for the guy. He came back to help this team win a championship and things just haven't gone their way. He's done everything he can to help his team but I think frusturation just got the better of him. He's still a great leader for this team and from my view on the couch, he looked like the only one that had a fire inside.

It's tough to watch this season kind of slowly spiral into meh when a guy like Taylor Lewan put his professional career on hold to try and help this season be special and have it not come to fruition. Add to that the indignity of having MSU embarass them in East Lansing when clearly Lewan wanted to come in there and give some payback for all the shenanigans in 2011.
Sucks, but life is rarely a Hollywood ending. Many times the bad guys win.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:04 PM ^
Not sure who the "bad guys" are to you, but Lewan did the exact thing we were all freaking out about last season. If anything, he's the pretty clear cut "bad guy" now.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:08 PM ^
you have to fuck up pretty bad to get Brad Nessler to turn on you.
November 4th, 2013 at 3:12 PM ^
"...he looked like the only one that had a fire inside."
I don't buy that - there was plenty of effort from a lot of them.
November 4th, 2013 at 4:19 PM ^
I feel bad for the guy for staying too, but that is not an excuse. He should sit for a full game.
November 4th, 2013 at 1:55 PM ^
November 4th, 2013 at 2:11 PM ^
Agreed. Lewan's antics cause me to think less of him as a player, and Hoke's (non) response causes me to think less of him as a coach. That said, my opinion isn't worth shit, and the current athletic administration keeps reminding me of this fact. sigh.

For anyone else who didn't see it during the game.
I hate this style of play and I wish Hoke had suspended him for a game.
November 4th, 2013 at 1:58 PM ^
Hoke should sit him for an entire game imo. I don't think Hoke is harsh enough with punishments
November 4th, 2013 at 2:02 PM ^
Agreed. He should absolutely be suspended for the Nebraska game.
And I agree that Hoke hasn't really shown himself to be very harsh with penalties. He pretty much hands down the minimal, without being insulting, penalty. In this case, apparently it's "none."
November 4th, 2013 at 2:06 PM ^
I was just assuming he would be suspended. I don't think there is any question he is going to be suspended by the Big Ten. I mean, I really think that if Hoke wants to go the minimalist route, it would still be wise to suspend him for a half against Nebraska and perhaps the conference would call it all square. This way he is basically guaranteeing that the conference will suspend him one game, unless they have already reviewed it and deemed it not-suspension worthy, and that would really surprise me.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:14 PM ^
a one game suspension, but intentionally grabbing a face mask after the play is over (and risking a serious injury) deserves nothing. He just lost all credibility with me.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
Can you find an occasion when somebody was seriously hurt by having their facemask pulled like Lewan did? I hate to sound like a Lewan apologist (and he should have been penalized in the game), but football players running full speed who get facemasked by other football players running full speed rarely get injured. I have literally never seen someone seriously injured from a facemask penalty. Ever.
Meanwhile, driving under the influence puts you at risk of hurting or killing yourself, any passengers, civilians walking down the street, people in other cars, etc.
Is a DUI/criminal offense a worse offense than pulling on a guy's facemask on the football field? Absolutely. Get your head on straight.
November 4th, 2013 at 2:39 PM ^
the answer to your question would then have to be, "it depends on if anybody gets hurt." That cannot be the appropriate conclusion. The appropriate punishment should be determined by intent, including indifference toward causing harm, not by the effect. A DUI driver intends no harm at all, but his actions are reckless enough to be deemed criminal. Lewan's actions were either intentional to cause pain, or reckless as what the result would be. If you are saying that Lewan "intended harm in the form of pain but not serious injury" and thus should not be disciplined then you are splitting too many hairs.
