Purdue and MSU home games

Submitted by hassanhaskinsfanclub on January 24th, 2022 at 4:52 PM

It is now January 24th and Michigan basketball travels to East Landfill Saturday. With the team starting to turn things around, is anyone else worried about getting the msu and Purdue home games rescheduled? We need those games played to build the tournament resume and I haven’t seen any update, even as we are now two weeks removed from the postponements. Hope they both end up being played.

RULE #1:  If the Big Ten can screw over Michigan, the Big Ten will screw over Michigan.

RULE #2: Playing those games will screw over Michigan.

RULE #3: Not playing those games will screw over Michigan.

This means Michigan will get screwed over by the Big Ten no matter what happens.

Uhhhhh, the Big Ten typically doesn't want to hurt the schools who bring value to the conference. Michigan Basketball has definitely been bringing value to the conference for a while now.

I haven't seen anything to suggest the Big Ten has done things to hurt Michigan's chances in Basketball. In fact, they have received very favorable schedules the past few years and last year the conference held firm to make sure Michigan was the regular season champion.

You want to talk football? Okay, I have a laundry list of things there, but it goes both ways.

i duno - i love the optimism around the team - its been a while since we felt it (this season), but take a look at who we've played and beaten and take a look who we havent played yet at all.  Just saying, we might want to temper expectations a little bit. i don tknow that playing purdue and msu is necessarily a good thing if we can build a resume by finishign in the top 7 in the B10 with a few more solid wins... (42-27 included).

But, either way, if they can keep improving, win or loss, i dont care.. even if we do the NIT.. just improve and hopefully everyone is back to make a run next year.

This exactly. In the last 2 games, Michigan has shot 58% (40% 3PT) and 57% (64% 3PT). On the season they have averaged 48% (35% 3PT).

Good things happen when you make baskets. Small sample size, but averaging 52% from downtown over the last 2 games is a big reason why they have won, and won handily.  I'd expect the team shooting percentage to tick up a little bit from the season average as the freshman gain confidence and continue to grow, but you can't expect to sustain this over the rest of the season.

Hopefully the good trend continues. But automatically expecting a tournament birth at this point is crazy.

As I understand, the ability to make up these games depends on Purdue and Michigan State.  I'm sure Tiny Tom is itching to get a game at Crisler with an improving Wolverines team.  Likewise, Matt Painter doesn't need another Michigan game on his school's resume to go to the NCAA.  So, I'm guessing NO.

Yeah, if it depends on them, there's almost no way they would cooperate.  They don't want to have to come to Crisler with more to lose than gain.  Small chance MSU falls behind in the conference race and needs a win to catch up, but that's probably the only scenario and I don't think they'd know that with enough time to schedule it.

Exactly.

Neither school will want to pack in extra games into an already tight  BIG schedule.

They are not required to accommodate  UM by agreeing to play.

We had the issue creating this situation.

The reason we haven't seen reschedule dates is because Purdue/MSU don't need to play for their resumes.

Given how the B1G has games scheduled on nearly every day of the week, you're probably only looking at a few dates that a game with MSU could happen and allow a day between already scheduled games:

Thursday, Feb 3rd

Thursday, Feb 10th

Tuesday, March 1st

Feb 24 is a possibility, but Michigan would play a back to back at home

I don't even know if there's a feasible date that would work for the Purdue game.  Purdue plays a lot on Thursdays that Michigan has off.

In my opinion these are the worst threads.  A misleading title (initially made me believe someone had found news of those games being officially rescheduled) followed by an uninteresting and obvious question that has already been speculated upon.  I'm not going to harp on this much because we've all been there but I'm still going to leave this comment here in hopes that OP doesn't make another thread like this in the future.

They won’t listen to me!  I already told them that my sources said,”Harbaugh will definitely stay or leave.  He hasn’t signed any other contract since 21’ and he is still working under that contract until he is otherwise instructed to sign on another Michigan lifetime contract.  You can quote me.  You can even retweet it if you’d like.  Quit listening to these other insiders, for they do not know as much as I do with my insider knowledge of the situation, at hand.

Seriously can we cut out the 3rd grade names and insults for MSU and OSU? If you’re going to throw insults at least come up with something creative. You sound like some of the redneck Buckeye fans I have to deal with down here
