Felt to me like he tried to oversimplify by applying the same reasoning to a bunch of plays but it didn't accurately explain all of them. His conclusion that it wasn't physicality but simply out gapping them every play doesn't pass the sniff test.

It's helpful analysis but I agree with others that it's a bit simplistic in terms of "they out-gapped PSU" because it ignores (a) that Michigan has NFL-caliber players at all 5 spots (depending on how you feel about Barnhart) with plus athleticism so even if PSU got their run fits correct (which they did at times) Michigan still just moved them, and (b) it equates a bit of "luck" to Michigan setting up more gaps than PSU has defenders instead of, again, UM having a great gameplan and repping NFL-level blocking schemes.  That's the biggest takeaway I've had about the offensive line since Moore took over for Warinner - it seemingly is more cohesive and consistent than what we saw under him, and they've been able to unlock a rush attack that always seemed to be on the tip of breaking through.

Disagree, he’s breaking down a game for psu fans, he isn’t there to fawn over um. We can talk about nfl players or high school players. The schemes, the fits, the design might change, but football is football. On defense you fit your gaps and you win, lose contain and you lose. You want him to bj UM with how great our scheme is or players are? He’s breaking down football. This beat down is simplistic, it was old school.

U watch Seth or Brian put it together after a beat down. They tell like it is even though we know they are big Michigan fans. Sometimes it is hard to read because they are telling the truth. So, breaking down Football is fine. But making it sound like it is all about just gaps and not about the techniques or quality of the players executing it (layman version of physicality) and calling it BJ UM is not an accurate representation what the above poster was arriving at.

Interesting to see.  What he doesn't point out is that on play after play, every Michigan O-lineman won his block.  If the O-line wins all its blocks, the Defense is toast.  It's true that this was a classic Jimbo pulling lineman pallooza and they were schematically exposed.  But D linemen have to beat their man.

I find it interesting that he had Vanderbilt playing above their weight but gets to Penn State where he can almost hog all of the large in-state recruits of Pennsylvania and outside of hitting the lotto on players like Saquon Barkley, he has mostly coached well below what Penn State could be capable of.

I’m watching a replay of the game right now.  When Corum makes the long TD run in Q3, it sounded a lot like Gus Johnson said “Blake, the Great!”.  I love it and so shall he be called henceforth.

Great post, thank you. What's shocking for me is how he's describing these schemes as 'simple.' I don't know either way, but one thing that has bothered me is that Michigan was 'forced' to show too much of their hand by running 50 plays. Not so, it seems. These are basic schemes with maybe a couple of wrinkles that didn't really surprise the analyst.
