Pre-Illinois Bracketology
Bracket Matrix lives here: www.bracketmatrix.com It has not been updated since Feb. 28. It says that it would be updated today, but nothing thus far. In any event, it has us as a 3 seed and it could only have gotten better. (I waited all day to post this, but now we're getting too close to tonight's game.)
I’m going to continue my history of misspelling this man’s name (see http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/monday-bracketology-1), Lundardi lives here: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology. Lundard notes (all unardi disclaims apply):
- Michigan currently is the second of Lunddardi’s 4 3 seeds. The one ahead is Iowa State and the two behind are Creighton and UVA. Thus, if you want to map out a path to a 2 seed, we obviously need to take care of business, but also root against Creighton and UVA, who could pass us with good wins. Also root against Villanova and Wisconsin, who are the last of his 2 seeds. In particular, an early BTT exit from Wisconsin or a Michigan victory over Wisconsin would help that effort considerably. That said, I still believe it unlikely that Michigan gets a 2 seed.
- Also root for FSU, his fourth team out.
- His projection has Minnesota as the last team in, giving the B1G 6 teams in.
- MSU is now a 4 seed to Lundard, OSU a 6 seed, Iowa a 6 seed and Minnesota fighting in the First 4 for an 11 seed.
Jerry Palm lives here: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology. Palm disclaimers apply. Palms projections are substantially identical to Lunard’s.
I believe the spelling is "Launargh'Dee." It's Scottish, if I'm not mistaken.
Here's the projected seeding from TeamRankings for Big Ten teams -
#1 - Wisconsin
#3 - Michigan
#4 - Michigan State
#6 - Ohio State
#8 - Iowa
There are also three teams that they project as having some shot at a bid - Nebraska (25%), Minnesota (32%) and Indiana (14%)
I continue to go back and forth with the guy who runs "Drew" on BM as to why he belives Michigan is a 5 seed. He insists he has seen nothing to convince him that they should be higher.
He claims to be a statistician but all he cites are total wins/winning pct.
New Mexico as a 4? VCU and Gonzaga both a 6? I guess VCU could get a 7 at the best. Also, he has Saint Mary's and Boise State as the first 2 out, lol.
i'm actually super happy that you drew that guy into a debate. there's no way he's using a statistical analysis. he just downgrades the B1G. seems self-loathing.
I understand that Wisky has a couple quality wins in the non-con and is riding a nice win streak at the moment, but I hate them as a 1 or 2 seed. They don't pass the eye test.
I can just hear it now, the analysts putting them on "upset alert" every single game they play in the tourney after the first round.
This has been my "deal" with them as well. Like, everyone wants to paint them as the high seed out of the Big Ten, likely a 2 seed, but the fact they're mentioning them on the 1 line is I suppose a credit to Wiscy. But as you say, once the brackets are out, the same people praising them are going to call whoever they draw in the 2nd round (the real 2nd round) a likely upset.
I hate them as a 1 seed as well, but they get the job done. To me they don't pass the eye test either, and I don't see them making it too far in the tourney, but their record is good enough for a 1 or 2 seed and they have a lot of good wins.
