Postgame Snowflake Thread: Michigan Basketball
It felt a bit tighter than it should be but BGSU is a solid team. Diggs was just on fire that kept the margin of victory closer than it should be.
How about Chaudee Brown? The hype about his shooting seems to be justified.

Coach Howard and his staff are doing a helluva a job !!
November 25th, 2020 at 6:45 PM ^
Everyone looked prepared, knew their assignments, and moved the ball around crisply. They were very few moments where it felt like the offense was stuck. Lots of open looks. That is a testament to the coaching staff.

Prepared for a game? Say it's not so...

Kinda dumb that one BG guy was hitting every single 3 he took
November 25th, 2020 at 6:22 PM ^
It happens sometimes. In general, I bet the coaching staff will focus on the overall defense improvement.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:27 PM ^
Good teaching tape for Juwan on defense with rotation and communication. It was obvious that it is not as crisp as it should be. That's normal with new pieces and freshmen having significant PT. I trust that they'll get better as the season goes on
November 25th, 2020 at 6:40 PM ^
I say Juwan keeps an eye on him for next year's transfer portal.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:40 PM ^
I'm sure they feel the same about Brown.
November 26th, 2020 at 10:57 AM ^
Of course, but in life Michigan are the good guys and everyone else is the bad guys so it's good that Chaundee was dropping everything and very bad that BG guy was doing the same
November 26th, 2020 at 6:43 AM ^
He missed one or two - but he was unreal. Some were highly contested. His name was Trey Diggs after all. Named to make a three.
November 26th, 2020 at 10:33 AM ^
You have no idea how that guy pissed me off. I had Michigan -13.5 in my bet. That one dude alone gave me sweaty palms to the end. If he missed just a couple times we win comfortably, by maybe 18 to 22 points. I haven't seen the stats but it seems he missed MAYBE one 3 in the second half?
Michigan's answer was Chaundee Brown. Gonna start calling him The Microwave.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:18 PM ^
Good start to the season. Just wanna continue to see improvement. As the basketball team says: Do more, say less.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:52 PM ^
I love that motto. I wish the football team would adopt it.
November 25th, 2020 at 8:07 PM ^
A great saying indeed.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:18 PM ^
Liked what I saw for the most part. Dickinson, Smith, and Brown look excellent. Give the team some games to round into form and gel and this is a team that could do some damage.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
Chaundee reminds me of Hardaway, Jr. Maybe a little taller and stronger. I like his game. Dickinson should be starting when the big 10 season starts.
The team was 23-34 from 2, with 23 assists. Nice.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:33 PM ^
Brown’s dribbling posture (crouched over) reminds me so much of a player in the NBA but I can’t put my finger on it. Crawford? I feel like i’m thinking of someone else though. It is driving me crazy.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
Andre Miller, from Rick Majerus' Utah Utes teams? Went on to play in the league for like 15 years.
November 25th, 2020 at 8:04 PM ^
I was getting some Michael Finley vibes
November 25th, 2020 at 8:27 PM ^
Michael Finley. Gotta be it. +1
November 25th, 2020 at 6:42 PM ^
Obviously liked his shooting. I couldn't help but feel pessimistic about him before he broke out in the second half. I thought he looked a little slow. Clearly he can get to the right spots, and if people give him room he can knock it down. He's a nice guy to have on the team for sure.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:50 PM ^
A taller and stronger Hardaway? You sound like a certain someone
November 25th, 2020 at 6:54 PM ^
We found Fred Jackson's username!
November 25th, 2020 at 7:09 PM ^
He dribbles just like Chris Paul’s doppelgänger from that annoying State Farm commercial.
And for the record, I love Chaundee Brown. That dude is the total package - rebounding, strength, D, toughness, and a sweet stroke.
November 25th, 2020 at 9:09 PM ^
It's kinda sad to me that Alfonso Riberio AKA Carlton Banks from Fresh Prince is now known as the "fake Chris Paul annoying guy" to the majority of the population.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
I thought the team played well. Great shooting from Brown, fantastic minutes down low from Hunter (he really looked good putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the rim), and how about Smith!? Great assists, only what, one turnover? Plus solid scoring?
Yeah I’d say it was a good night and we look to have a solid two-deep.
We could obviously improve our defense and our overall shooting (missed A LOT of wide open looks) BUT, they executed the offense and moved the ball VERY well. The shots will fall eventually. Overall the team looks solid and bodes well for the future.
Thank God for basketball lol!
November 25th, 2020 at 6:20 PM ^
80 is an abysmal number to give up even with 1 guy going nuclear from 3. I’d feel a lot better if we got to 110 which judging by the average shot we generated on offense, that was very doable.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:21 PM ^
Is it tho if you score 96?
I mean, the point is to win the game
November 25th, 2020 at 6:23 PM ^
BGSU was making some NBA 3s. If the game was closer, perhaps we’d adjust and challenge that a little more.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:41 PM ^
They were raining NBA threes that really were not great shots. Their shooting was more just one of those things than a sign of issues. This could have been a blowout. They would beat plenty of Big Ten teams shooting that way.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:22 PM ^
Defense needs some improvement but it’s great to see them hitting buckets early in the season. BG kept hitting contested 3s in the second half. Don’t sleep on BG either. They are picked to win the MAC so we shall see come march
November 25th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
Right. That one player, his name Diggs?, just couldn’t miss no matter how he was guarded. He had what, 6 or 7 three pointers in the second half? That’s 18-21 points right there. Not much you can do about that when those kind of shots are falling.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:23 PM ^
Haaa, ok Scrooge !!
November 25th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
I mean, its game 1. It was also a high possession game that was kept close because of some hero ball from a BG player. I'll take giving up 80 and winning going away every day.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:33 PM ^
Diggs scored 21 points in the last 6:49 for Bowling Green (6-9 from 3, and 3-3 free throws), and it wasn’t like he was left wide open at the 3 pt line. Probably needs to be addressed, but it wasn’t exactly a close game in the last 7 minutes either. Plenty to be optimistic about!
November 26th, 2020 at 1:24 AM ^
Maybe you didn’t notice but Juwan used this game as an opportunity to get 10 plus guys, including two key freshman, minutes in the first half when BG was still playing hard. That helped keep the game closer but that experience is invaluable and far better than letting the starters run up the score for the first 30 minutes and then letting the other guys get mop up minutes when things get sloppy. That is great coaching by Howard and the other coaches, especially this season when you never know when you may miss a few guys due to Covid and/or injury.
November 26th, 2020 at 6:47 AM ^
Damn, Street. Sampling your downers again?
November 25th, 2020 at 6:20 PM ^
Chaundee Brown and Mike Smith look like huge additions this season. With Wagner, Brooks, and Livers we have legit offensive firepower. The freshman looked ok mainly Dickinson looks to be a big time play maker and I expect will be the starter over Davis when big ten play starts. Williams had a few nice plays and a couple bad ones. Not much from Zeb but they will improve as the season progresses. I think this team is gonna be solid and should be very fun to watch! GO BLUE!
November 25th, 2020 at 6:34 PM ^
Three new players look to be three of our top six. Chaundee, Dickerson, and Smith was perfect in their roles.
My HOT TAKE:
I also loved Williamson's game in his limited minutes. He plays like an athletic Charles Barkley - better vision, better effort, and better mass than the players around him. Give him a few years in this program and I think he will be the type of player that other teams hate to play against. He will be a fan favorite.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
I agree. He was a touch outta control today though lol.
November 25th, 2020 at 6:59 PM ^
Oh I’m not hating on Jackson or Williams. They were both top 100 players who I think will have great careers at Michigan. It’s gonna take some time for them to have an impact. Hopefully they stick around and don’t end up transferring. We’re gonna need some uppclassmen to step up next year
November 25th, 2020 at 7:51 PM ^
Williams looked like he belonged out there! Zeb couldn't stay in front of anyone! He's just not ready!
November 26th, 2020 at 8:58 AM ^
I think the coaches realize playing Zeb may be a necessity at some point this season. If Brooks or Smith get in foul trouble or banged up Zeb has to play some meaningful minutes.
Im hoping he can improve his defensive chops and he can at least use his athleticism to effect the game.
But again i love that our coaches realize this and are getting him real competitive minutes from the get go.
November 25th, 2020 at 9:37 PM ^
Did you really just say an athletic Charles Barkley?
