Poole Is Golden with Golden State
Jordan Poole is shining for Golden State. He was its leading scorer the last couple games.

Golden and Pool(e) probably shouldn't be put in the same title together.
That being said, proud of that young man. He is a Klay-mold and fitting fine on what is looking like a great team that is finding its groove just in time to return to full strength.

At least I didn't title it "Golden Poole with Golden State."

Yeah that would have been too good for comment.

As long as we're not talking showers, I'm good. NTTAWWT.

A star on a 7-1 team to boot
November 6th, 2021 at 6:47 AM ^
He’s looking great. Just needs to raise his 3% a bit. He was only making around 30% last time I checked. Increase that and he can be a legit star.
November 6th, 2021 at 7:44 AM ^
Last time you checked must have been his rookie season in 2019-2020. His 3pt% has been over 35% last season and through 8 games this year.

To put that in perspective, Allen Iverson was a career 31.3% shooter from 3. Kobe was at 32.9. MJ was 32.7. That’s 3 pretty legit star guards. Percentages have increased, but 35% is good enough to demand you get defended behind the line, opening up the court for Steph and Klay. That’s really all GS is going to ask of him once Klay is back. That, and leading the 2nd unit when Steph sits.

AI, Kobe, and MJ just aren’t good comps. Game has changed a lot since their primes. All three would still be great in today’s game, but they’d have worked to elevate their 3-point shooting quite a bit.

Yesterday afternoon? 16/53 30%.
November 6th, 2021 at 8:41 AM ^
Through 1/10 of the season, Duncan is only shooting 33.3% from 3. Are you going to be concerned by his shooting ability?
Poole has 35% over the entirety of last season.
He’s been developing well because GS is patient and has shooters from him to learn from.

Didn’t realize how sensitive the board is today. He’s perfect. Carry on.
November 6th, 2021 at 9:08 AM ^
We get that way after a football loss.
November 6th, 2021 at 10:05 AM ^
Exactly. That's reality.
November 6th, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
As of this morning, 22/62, 35.5% after going 6/9 against NO last night - not sure why you're ignoring that game, the results of which were clearly available when you posted.
Still early in the season, so one great or bad game has an outsized effect on the percentages. Given his performance last season, I'd say he's fine.
November 6th, 2021 at 11:54 AM ^
Lol he’s a career 31% shooter. I’m glad he’s on the upswing as of midnight last night.
I hope I don’t get banned for calling Jordan Poole great…

Jeebus, nothing satisfies a certain kind of fan.

Proud of him! He looked to me like he coulda used another year or two here at Michigan, but man he proved me wrong...
November 6th, 2021 at 8:43 AM ^
Both things can be true. He’s super talented and he landed with a patient team that recognized his potential. If he’d gone to a traditionally bad team that expected him to star right away then he mag not have developed.

You don't get drafted to be an immediate star in the late first round.
November 6th, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
Right, and when you get drafted in the first round, you get a three year deal so you get patience.
People always want to rationalize success or failure as something the team did or didn't. Some guys just have it and some don't.
November 6th, 2021 at 11:30 AM ^
Both things are true. Teams can make a difference but also some guys just have it.
November 6th, 2021 at 1:10 PM ^
Yep, they have given him significant minutes to start his career, and the injuries to Steph and Klay worked out in his favor. Because boy was he struggling his first year. To stick with him says something, about the team and about him. Must be helpful to have Steph and Kerr as mentors too. Even Stephen A was singing his praises last night. Love to see it
November 6th, 2021 at 9:47 AM ^
Congrats to him, dude has seriously put in time and work into his game.
November 6th, 2021 at 10:02 AM ^
He's really improved his shooting overall (almost 36% from 3 this year) and he's clearly more comfortable in his role opposite of Curry. He does turn the ball over a bit more than you'd like (2.5 TOs a game), but GSW doesn't seem to really mind that. It also does seem like his defense has improved a bit, which is a part of his game that needed to tighten up to keep him on the court.
Glad he's doing well; I'll admit to thinking he left a year early but glad he was able to overcome his struggles.
November 6th, 2021 at 10:15 AM ^
I didn’t think he was ready to leave after his 2nd year, and the advanced metrics his rookie year on the warriors were pretty terrible by even rookie standards.
But since the middle of last year or so, he’s been really coming along. Good to see from him!

Jordan Poole - cat lover
He adopted two cats from a Bay area shelter. I wonder if he still has his ferret?
November 6th, 2021 at 12:30 PM ^
I would not fret the ferret and I wounder if he named one of the cats John Feline...

Poole Is Golden with Golden State; and hopefully never Golden Showered with accolades.
If that story were to ever leak.
November 6th, 2021 at 2:52 PM ^
For last season, the average 3P% across the entire league for all games was 36.7 percent compared to his 35.5%. For eFG he is at 54.9% vs 53.8% for league average last year. So fair to say that overall he is a league average shooter so far this year. But he's doing that with a bit higher usage and more minutes too which are more often coming against starters. He's still only 22 and he's clearly become more comfortable. TBD on whether he becomes a good shooter by NBA standards.
The other interesting question is where he fits in Golden State's rotation and his role once Klay gets back, especially with Payton getting minutes now. There's flexibility in skillsets for the Warriors backcourt combinations, but still, only so many minutes to go around.
