Pizza Bowl Open Thread
I managed to get out of a meeting earlier than expected, so this shall be the last thing I do at my desk here....
Continuing our series of non-flashy, non-relevant bowl games is the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, played right here in Michigan at the home of the playoff-bound Detroit Lions.
Our contestants are a 7-5 Western Michigan team versus a 6-6 Purdue team. Most pundits are predicting a close one that, either way, shows the world that Purdue has a way to go to relevancy.
4:30 PM on ESPN.
Later this evening, the Belk Bowl. Oh yeah, fun and excitement continues.

I didn't care why you chose it. I just thought it was hilarious and awesome. You are also cool b/c you are an avid CFB junkie like myself. There is no suck thing as a bad bowl game. It gives me the opprtunity to watch teams I would never get to see play unless they had them. Maybe there will be 30 next year!
December 27th, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^
There are already 35...
December 27th, 2011 at 7:48 PM ^
Can I get 40?!
December 27th, 2011 at 7:08 PM ^
Hope's not going to like that.

This game is a train wreck! But very entertaining.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
I was amused by the fact that they ESPN is not "counting anyone out". Given the teams involved, I wouldn't either. It's been pretty ugly overall.
EDIT: Is it just me or have both teams just had immense trouble with dead-on run plays and QB draws all game?
December 27th, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
Say what you want about the Motor City/Little Caesar's Bowl - it's usually a pretty entertaining game.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
It's making this game for me, it really is...

Ohio vs. Marshall was a good matchup a year back.

Carder looks absolutely awful

That Ifeadi Odenigbo Get 2 The Game was depressing. He was one of my favorite prospects. It's going to suck seeing him on another team, especially if he stays in the Midwest.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:41 PM ^
...its Western Michigan, not Central Michigan. Stupid ESPN.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:41 PM ^
Ah, those Regionals are all alike.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:54 PM ^
These turnovers oh noes are unreal.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
At the current rate of turnovers, a complete WMU comeback is not unrealistic. All the ball needs is a little more bacon grease.
EDIT: Innovation in punting and punt formations. It's a Pizza Bowl thing.

I guess at least the B1G got a bowl win albeit an embarrassing one.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:54 PM ^
This is such a funny game.

Is Gus Johnson calling this game for the radio?? I don't hear him on my TV but this is a classic Gus Game.

The ball must have been sitting in the Little Caesars kitchen because that thing is greasy.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
WMU fumbles....1:47 is a lot of time in this game, but 37-32 might approximate the final score.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:09 PM ^
Not a lot of time with no timeouts. Although a fumble on the knee down is not out of the question.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
...and 37-32 Purdue it is.
Purdue: Beating Regionals in the Pizza (formerly Motor City) Bowl since 2007.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
Why doesn't the Big 10 get any respect? Purdue got six turnovers and two onsides kicks, yet only beat a 7-5 MAC team by 5--that's why.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
Wasn't really paying attention, but was that last fumble a designed QB run? Or was it Carder tryiong to get away from the sack? Either way, what a sloppy game by both teams.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:13 PM ^
Broken pass play.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
Too soon?
December 27th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
Looks like San Kinison.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
Good answer. I like the way you think. I'm gonna be watching you.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
Minus the dumb typos. San...I hate myself.

After hearing his attempt at oration, I no longer think that Danny Hope is a bad person. I think he's just really, really dumb.

Just got back from the game. Went with several family members. I was rooting for Western but I guess it's good for the Big Ten to win. I won't be rooting for MSU, OSU or PSU, however.
47,000 fans showed up. Much more than I expected. That was probably the weirdest game I've ever been too. Purdue tries two onside kicks and recovers them both. Western fumbles, Purdue picks the ball up and then fumbles back to Western...that happened twice. Carder could have easily had a couple more interceptions. There is no defense in the MAC. All the teams just throw, throw, throw and score a ton of points. Not that Purdue is any good themselves. The game might have been different if not for that 99 yard kickoff return by the Boilers. Still hate Danny Hope.

We-he-hell.....47,000 was the announced attendance, yes, but I wouldn't put 47,000 in the stadium. Maybe 38-40. I mean, it wasn't too bad for an eighth-tier bowl (it's not like anybody showed up at the Hawaii Bowl) but I had my doubts about 46-47,000. Was at the game myself, my brother is a Purdue grad so we made a family trip of it. Second time we've gone, both games were pretty tight and entertaining if a little sloppy.
