Pistons Trade for Trevor Ariza, additional 1st
For those following the NBA.
Pistons got Ariza and the 16th pick for a future 1st rounder.
Do not think they will be keeping Ariza.

Big move coming. They'll package 16 and 7.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:22 PM ^
Hope so.
Regardless, love this play. This lifeless franchise needs a bolt of energy.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:35 PM ^
I hope not. They should sit tight and take Hayes at 7. They should try to build future draft capital as the next draft is much more talent laden.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:41 PM ^
I'm OK with that- Hayes is my guy at 7.
Meh on Halliburton.
Absolutely not on Patrick Williams. Pistons don't need to draft another tweener who can't shoot.
November 18th, 2020 at 8:01 PM ^
Hope they stay at 7 but you are probably right
November 18th, 2020 at 7:22 PM ^
I am very much a fair weather Pistons fan but that future 1st rounder makes me nervous. Adding a 1st rounder in a draft that is by all accounts a weaker draft could come back to bite the Pistons if they end up losing a top 10 pick. Hope the protection is strong.....
November 18th, 2020 at 7:23 PM ^
It's lottery-protected from what I understand. So if the Pistons get their crap together this season and step up, that pick will be crappy.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:25 PM ^
ok....that's a good move then.....was trying to find the specifics but came up empty.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:25 PM ^
It is super protected, top 16 protected for 4(!) years, top 10 for the 2 years after that, then top 9 for 1 year before becoming multiple second round picks instead. Won't cost them a chance at Emoni Bates or Cade Cunningham.
November 18th, 2020 at 8:30 PM ^
The Pistons will cost themselves a shot at a true difference maker by never committing to be bad enough. And you know Detroit teams never move up in the lottery.
November 18th, 2020 at 9:17 PM ^
Well that is the crux of the lottery. Being the worst doesn't guarantee you the #1 pick. Look at the Red Wings.. they fell all the way to #4 this past year and the 10th worst team, the NY Rangers, lucked into #1.
November 19th, 2020 at 10:27 AM ^
The Lions called. This is an infringement on their copyrighted process.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:23 PM ^
Never a fan of trading away future 1sts but that pick has TONS of protections. Ariza is just trade bait. Weird that they sold their 2nd rd pick next year to Houston for cash too. Houston is hard capped so you'd think you could take advantage of them and Morey isn't there anymore either. More excitement for tonight, I guess. Pistons could use some excitement. Supposedly worked out Aaron Nesmith who'd be in that 15,16 range. Best shooter in draft. Would be fine with Williams, Hayes, or Haliburton at 7.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:23 PM ^
Agreed- lottery protected is huge.
This franchise needs a spark- having two first round picks is a great start.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:43 PM ^
They traded that pick for cash to buy a 2nd round pick tonight.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:31 PM ^
Shrewd move. Make things happen now without over-leveraging your future. Assets, assets, assets. His aggressiveness is encouraging.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:36 PM ^
Yep, love it. Seems like they fleeced Houston on this one.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:37 PM ^
As long as Tom Gores is still the owner, none of this will matter the Pistons will continue to be complete garbage.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:42 PM ^
Yeah I'm not there yet. As long as he lets Weaver do his thing, the Pistons can be fine.
I don't like Tom Gores, but he hasn't sunk to the Fords level yet.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:40 PM ^
What is this NBA you speak of?
November 18th, 2020 at 8:28 PM ^
It's the place where most of Michigan's basketball players go when they are done in Ann Arbor.
November 18th, 2020 at 7:40 PM ^
Great trade. Low risk with huge upside. They can flip Ariza for assets at trade deadline plus the future 1st is heavily protected for the next 9 years which won't matter much down the road. That means they can tank until Emoni Bates enters the draft
November 18th, 2020 at 7:41 PM ^
It’s #16 and Ariza for a future #1
November 18th, 2020 at 8:04 PM ^
I was really hoping for something one way or another. Make some moves to try and get more now, or make moves and try and stock pile picks for the future. Go pistons
November 18th, 2020 at 8:08 PM ^
This seems like the worst draft class in a while, so I'd rather they hold on to their future picks, but it's protected enough that it's not really a risky move. So, pretty meh.
November 18th, 2020 at 8:29 PM ^
PHEW! I was terrified the Pistons would draft Patrick Williams.
Cannot believe he went that high.
November 18th, 2020 at 8:43 PM ^
Wow- did not expect Obi Toppin to make it this far.
If it is not Killian Hayes, I'd love me some Obi Toppin.
November 18th, 2020 at 8:47 PM ^
Killian Hayes- love it.
November 18th, 2020 at 8:54 PM ^
KILLIAN!
November 18th, 2020 at 8:55 PM ^
Great pick. You knew it was the Pistons' guy when they made the pick literally 2 seconds when their clock was called.
I would have also been cool with Obi Toppin- however, I am definitely concerned where he'd play with Wood- not sure how great he'll be in the league.
PG is the biggest need for the Pistons.
November 18th, 2020 at 9:49 PM ^
They havent actually resigned Wood yet. Was reading on The Athletic that it may be a 50/50 shot that they actually do.
November 18th, 2020 at 9:05 PM ^
I was really hoping they would trade up to #2 and take Darko.
November 18th, 2020 at 9:11 PM ^
Pistons are going to get decent value at 17 with the way the picks are going.
November 18th, 2020 at 9:33 PM ^
if cole anthony drops, do the pistons take him too?
November 18th, 2020 at 9:51 PM ^
Pistons trade for #19 now as well... really active tonight
November 18th, 2020 at 10:01 PM ^
i'm no expert but i like bey more than stewart based on his versatility.
November 18th, 2020 at 10:07 PM ^
They must have liked something about Stewart but I do like the Bey pick better. With Kennard leaving is there any shooters left on the Pistons?
November 18th, 2020 at 10:03 PM ^
I am super confused. Did the Pistons make three picks???
November 18th, 2020 at 10:06 PM ^
Yes. Hayes, Stewart, and Bey
November 18th, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
ESPN absolutely sucks with updating this information.
November 18th, 2020 at 10:10 PM ^
That is correct.
November 18th, 2020 at 10:10 PM ^
Yes, they got Isaiah Stewart (C) from University of Washington with 16, & Saddiq Bey (PF) from Villanova with 19. I think they traded Kennard & god knows what else for 19.
3 picks in the top 20. Not sure what that does to their cap space, but it's a new Pistons era.
November 18th, 2020 at 10:14 PM ^
It's a 3 way trade. Pistons traded Kennard to LAC, LAC traded Shamet to the Nets and the Nets traded their 19th overall pick to the Pistons. It's a good trade because Kennard wasn't going to fit the rebuild timeline and has value as an asset.
November 18th, 2020 at 10:16 PM ^
I love it.
I think Weaver came in, looked at the roster and said holy fuck this team sucks.
Made some QUICK adjustments.
November 18th, 2020 at 11:31 PM ^
I think Blake, DRose and Ariza will get moved sometimes this season for assets. Ariza seems the most likely bc of his 3 and D ability. DRose should've been moved last season but has an expiring contract. If he can repeat last season, he'll definitely get moved to a contender. Blake is a wildcard but hopefully desperate team will bite on Blake.
November 18th, 2020 at 10:24 PM ^
This has been the most exciting night for Detroit basketball in 15 years! Lovin' it!
