A Pirate Looks at Iowa State - The Alamo Bowl - WSU v. ISU

Mates,

One of the board favorite coaches (and my old classmate), Mike Leach and his merry band of Wazzu Cougars are taking on ISU.  Game just started.  Looking to see WSU, a relatively small school, show up and do well in a bowl.  Swing your sword Cougars, and go out in style.

And of course it includes his crew bending ISU over with another horseshit targeting call.  Matt Campbell had every right to go apeshit on that one.  The force of that hit would not have hurt if the QB wasn't wearing a helmet.  What a joke.  And McElroy, you don't have the stones to speak up and call bullshit on that.  Always toeing the company line.  I like McElroy but I lost a little respect for him last night.

Mike Leach is no favorite of mine.  Rick Leach, oh yeah.  Rick's son Matt Leach, a welcome new addition in the local radio broadcast landscape.  He's excellent.

Hopefully Mike is no relation.

Hope we can get this win tomorrow!

Heaven forbid this exhibition game be exciting.

People complain about players not playing in these games, but when you've got to share fucking screen time with John O'Neill, why would you?

Just saw the replay of the “taunting” on the pick 6. Stupid as hell. I mean, sure, there is a penalty available to call l, but if you’re going to call it, it’d better be blatant as hell. He should have to be turning around, talking shit, holding the ball backward as if to say “come get it, asshole, I’m gonna score a touchdown “. I mean, really....wtf?

okay, that chop block call might be the worst yet.  dude gets hit backwards into a defender, totally unintentionally as he got rocked, and they call him for the chop block because he ends up falling back into an ISU guy.  turrible.

Oh man Wazzous punter there had a great kick but absolutely horrible execution by special teams to capitalize on downing the ball before the touchback.

Alamo Bowl has probably been consistently the best bowl since they went to the Big XII-PAC 12 matchup. Usually high-scoring and pretty close, with attendance always hovering around 60,000 which is nearly full in the Alamodome. Often involves teams just outside the top ten. I thought WSU should have been in the NY6 instead of LSU. I also like Matt Campbell a lot. If Harbaugh ever did decide to go the the NFL or hang it up, this guy should be top of the list.

If they ever expand the NY6 due to playoffs or more “access,” the Alamo should be the next bowl up.

They wouldn't would be my answer but, is he projected higher?!  Because I can tell you Montgomery is great and should will much success in the NFL.  Higdon, I don't know...I hope but that doesn't mean he will.  Montgomery had/has a ridiculous stat that I ignorantly can't state but it has to do with YAC...he does NOT go backwards and is able to make a yard or 2 (or more) out of backfield hits, regularly.
