Pioneer Tailgating Feedback

Submitted by bmr4242 on

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a reserved spot @ Pioneer for the upcoming season. I have always tailgated on the GC but looking to avoid lining up, random spots they push you into etc. I know the spot is paved vs grass so not looking for feedback along those lines - more about atmosphere, room to set up tent, bags, etc. If anyone has a reserved spot I would be very curious to hear your feedback. Thanks in advance to all.

I've had a reserved tailgate spot there for years. The space is grass but you park on asphalt adjacent to the spot -- with spaces for three cars reserved and dedicated to your spot (for which you pay extra on a per car basis ). Great atmosphere. You get to know your "neighbors", can come and go easily, and friends always know where to find you. Our grass area is huge -- easily enough room for four canopies and games. Always open even if the grass area for cars is closed due to too much rain.

Boooo!

Give me lawns, trees, fairways, front yards, shaded lots, etc. instead.

(edit:  While I know you specifically stated you're not looking for a debate about paved lots vs. parking in grasssy areas, I think there is an inherent improvement in atmosphere by having a softer lawn surface, trees, etc.,  as opposed to the hard surface of a paved lot.

Let me ask you this: Do you enjoy your lawn or your driveway more?)

I like the fact you get stuck in different areas and around different people on the GC. Picnic table and grill on grass, tossing the football on fairways. Harbaugh in the autumn is happening.

Tailgated at pioneer for many years. And then the price went up to $50 and they became real strict on where we could and could not park. Found a nice spot at a church for $5 and they let you use their bathrooms. It did add about 5-10 to the walking time but that doesn't bother us.

who tailgate regularly.  Tried to do a proper one years ago and couldn't believe all the work and money that went into it.  Not to mention the extra time involved.

My longish drive (actually 1/2 what it used to be now, kept me from doing it again.)  I'm an in and out no muss, no fuss kind of football watcher.

One of the best moves I've made in my Michigan life. I went from paying $50 at Pioneer - and being cramped as hell - to paying $20 to park on a lawn right across the street from Allmendinger Park. We tailgate in the park, and it's great. Tons of room, bathroom nearby, big field to throw the football around. Lots of families and not many drunks. I've done all the usual suspects in tailgating, and this is by far the best-kept secret in Wolverine Nation.
