This will be the thread for coaching and special teams hot takes.

I'm willing to concede that Sherrone Moore may just know a little more about coaching than I do. He won a tough game on the road in bizarre circumstances.

Didn't throw a pass in the 2nd half. Showed the world that this team can still be physical and run the fucking ball. The defense was amazing. I loved the coaching. Moore is a DAWG. Loved the passion in the post game interview. TELL THE FUCKING WORLD!!!

There was no time to adjust to not having harbaugh on the sideline. Even with the game plan intact, harbaugh has a generation of experience that the assistants don’t. The PSU pass rush was overwhelming the tackles.  No criticism is necessary; we circled the wagons and just won the fucking game.

They probably told PSU in the tunnel at half time, “Let us help you, you don’t need our signals, we are gonna run the ball down your throat.”

4-0 without a head coach!

Ill never take a top 10 road win with an interim coach for granted…but man was this some Lloydball. Passing the ball was fine in the 2nd quarter and it was shelved

If Moore gets fined for swearimg, this here MGoBlog Community needs to start a GoFundMe and pay it.  (Yes - I know he has money and can pay it.  That's not my point.)

Congrats to Coach Moore for being Johnny-on-the-Spot today.  Going into Happy Valley with everything that has been going on, and beating by far the best defense they've faced?

Today, Sherrone Moore got a win over Penn State, Happy Valley, Frames Janklin, the B1G conference, Tony Pettiti, underhanded legal tactics, the pundits who said Michigan hasn't played anyone, and the pundits who said Michigan is getting a free 21 PPG thanks to Connor Stalions.

It was powerful seeing how emotional he got in the postgame interview.  You can see why the O-Line has been so good since he got here.

Minter wasn't so bad himself.

Who would’ve thought that losing Coach Harbaugh for the first three games (over burgers)  would’ve helped us today? Coach Moore is the MAN!
I love Harbaugh’s coaching staff. It’s the best in the country!

Edit: Bet!

Random thoughts:

1.  I love how quickly the coaches adjusted and relied on the run game, especially when it had struggled somewhat this season.  Pass protection wasn't good.  Even more incredible that it could happen without Connor Stalions.

2.  I think in the second half they knew they just needed to not turn the ball over and they could win that way.

3.  James Franklin is the worst good coach in any sport.  Some of his decisions were just head-scratching, and it seems like I could say that every year.

4.  I have no idea why Penn State didn't kick the extra point down 9, analytics be damned.

5.  Got a little choked up watching Sherrone Moore's post game interview.

6.  What a great win!  I don't care how veteran the team is, these are still 18 to 24 year old kids and it couldn't have been easy dealing with what they dealt with the last 24 hours (or 3 weeks).

7.  I know it won't happen, and I understand why, but I would love it if Michigan coaches refused to coach at any Big Ten school for the rest of their careers.

The reason you don't go for 2 when Franklin did late in the game is because if you miss it, the game is effectively over -- and your team knows it. If instead he'd kicked the EP, his team would remain fully motivated to get a final TD and 2-pointer. The game ended with that failed 2-pointer. A perfect of example of when a coach should ignore the "metrics," which don't account for the mental aspect.

This is an awful, awful take.

For all of the stupid decisions James Franklin made, and makes, going for two down 9 is 100% the correct call, ten times out of ten.  (But, for God’s sake, find a real playcall.  Or, on second thought, don’t — never change, Frames).

If the “mental aspect” is the problem, teach your players enough analytics to understand the right call rather than making the wrong call to keep from de-motivating them.

By going for 2 earlier, Franklin knew it was still a two-possession game, and that one score would be insufficient.  If your “motivated” team scores that extra touchdown, and still misses the two point conversion, you haven’t improved your game situation any, but you’ve probably used a lot more time because you thought it was a one-possession game, until it suddenly wasn’t.

I posted this on the game thread after Moore post-game.  Worth repeating here.

Another thing for all of us to take away from Moore’s post-game is the emotional toll this season is taking on the coaches.

Did not like the offensive play calling one bit. Liked seeing the passion out of Moore, but JJ is too good to turn him into an option QB.

I know pass pro had some problems early, but give them a chance. It'd be different if run game was mauling PSU, but it really wasn't.

You know how we know SpyGate is some bullshit?

We don't *need* the opponents signs against forking James Franklin.  If the B1G really wanted to hurt us they woulda suspended him for this game.

Bet.

We played the most conservative offensive game since I don't know when.  But it was enough with the way the defense came up with stops and allowing Frames to be Frames with some bad play calls.  Sherrone Moore was in a tough spot and I don't blame him at all for being conservative.  Just get the W.  The cover was icing on the cake.

Sherrone Moore has had a statistically significant effect on my blood pressure and I’m almost certain that I’m not alone.

If you aren’t confident enough to call a single pass for a whole half, you need to bench whomever is the cause of that feeling.
