the penalties

Submitted by Carcajou on

What exactly were all those penalties, especially on the punt team? Numerous illegal procedure and "more than four men in the backfield" penalties could be costly one of these games. Has Harbaugh or other coaches been asked or given any detailed explanation?

ABC did a lousy job either showing or explaining exactly what they were for.

Which, in fact means the wrong team was penalized.

The other rash of penalties was because JBB kept lining up too far back from the LoS thus "Too many men in the backfield."  A topic that was discussed at some length a week or so ago and the topic of LT will, no doubt, be discussed at some length this coming week.

Posting early evening from Asia (where it's half a day ahead). Still had an evening ahead of me.

Was out, stopped back at home, and didn't see anything shedding further light about the penalties in the writeup or a posting. Was curious. Was able to watch the game, but the ABC cameras didn't catch most of these penalties, and the ABC announcers didn't shed any light on it. Hearing that the Wisky punt return team were interfering with the signals might help to explain some of those penalties, though not really the illegal formation penalites, which kind of surprised me. Can't remember any such penalties in the first few games. Wanted to see if anybody here was at the game or knew a bit more about what went on.

While Kenny Allen did have some very good punts, the special teams went from great to stinky pretty quick.  They need to clean up those penalties and find someone that can just put it through the uprights.

The holding call on JBB during the Morris sweep play was huge. UM was about to have 2nd & short deep in Wisconsin territory. We had a (another) good shot at going up 2 scores. Instead the hold gets us backed up to 1st&20, Speight has to try to throw and he ends up tossing a pick ... and the return set them up with a short field to tie the game. If we had lost, I felt like that hold was the turning point.

JBB drew a couple of penalties in his first meaningful playing time and the punt team was dealing with Wisc barking out signals. That was why Harbaugh went bonkers on the officials instead of the players.

while i saw flags got thrown to one team all over the places and the TV didn't show the slow motions, I smell these are just problem of refereees. I don't think we need to worry about it. But the team did learn this and it can easily happen in the away game.
i. e. got many bs penalties. They need to keep their composures and let Harbaugh handle it with ref.

Really the penalties came at bad times in the game, and I believe did have a poor effect on our performance. What kind of loser bucknut is on a Michigan blog at 6:00am on Sunday morning. Go trip into some inbreed hole like your folks did

Pretty sure JBB got called for holding when he was cut and flipped over on top the dude. I thought that one was especially bad. Also at least one of the 5 men in the backfield was really bad too as JBB's front foot was clearly within a yard of the line of scrimmage.

Clearly a bad call, if that was a penalty, Sparty demolished Sypnewski (spelling, sorry) on the blocked punt/score on the final play of the 2015 horror. No call there. Gutless ref. I ve always thought if that was just another punt in the second quarter that isn't blocked, that penalty gets called.

Not that I pay much attention to the refs, but yesterday was a top 10 matchup, and I don't recall seeing that referee before.  Maybe from that standpoint I'm critical of some of their calls (that went both ways).
