Passing of Doug Harris - Michigan usher

Submitted by Mgthefrenchy on August 15th, 2020 at 8:53 AM

I just learned the passing of Doug Harris. He was 66 and was planning to retire from his regular job in November.

One of the rare Michigan ushers presents at many different sports.
Extremely upbeat (Even when Michigan looses), He was one of my fav' - One of the nicest and sweetest guy I have meet at UM sports.

When I first arrived on Michigan sports coverage my English was so bad, the noise was loud and people just assumed I knew what I was doing but in fact I was so lost.

He was one of the person, I could always go ask: Knowing he would take the time to explain as well as talking slowly enough for me to understand. I may have twisted the rules on my position a few times to get uniques photos (Even once on his propositions).

He was one of the few that would always let me do it because he trusted me I would "twist it right".

I will miss dearly.

Prayer for him and his family.

Go Blue Doug - Go blue.

He is on the left on this image. You would probably recognized him - He was always smiling and so active.

Wonderful post & tribute!

RIP, Doug.

I'm really hoping for a spring season, and one of the many reasons is to see the great pair of ushers in my section (36). Dave has been usher there for 40+years and Burt for at least 25 and we talk weekly during the season

How long ago?  We've been in the same seats since 1980, started with 4 seats but now control 16 seats over 3 rows right on the aisle next to the entrance portal.

Dave, who I think is closing in on 50 years as an usher, is getting up there in years but other than his hearing seems to be doing well.

I also new Doug  for years. He ushered two sections over at Crisler and we would meet courtside during media timeouts. We also worked at Cliff Keen together for wrestling at the player/ family entrance and as you said he would go above and beyond to help out.  The Event Team has lost a good one. RIP.
