Over/Under: Forcier Gets Booed

Submitted by evenyoubrutus on
You know that those same d-bag fans who cheered when Henne got hurt in the Oregon game will be booing Forcier the first time he throws an interception, or maybe if he gets rattled against ND and makes one bad read, or makes some freshman mistake that ANY true freshman could make. Personally, if I were Tate, and I got booed as a freshman by my own fans for something stupid, I would walk over to the section wherever the boos are coming from, flip them off, and then request my transfer documents right then and there. Of course, I'm not Tate Forcier, and hopefully he doesn't do that. Anyway, best of luck to him. He's got a lot of pressure and a lot of burden to carry. I know that I couldn't handle that, but let's hope he can.

Expect a lot of frustration with Tate early on. He's going to make a lot of high school QB mistakes. He will get booed. PS: Don't count out Robinson just yet. Kid's a heck of an athlete.

....moved up the MGoHierarchy by the number of empty water bottles thrown at out-of-touch baby boomers per season? Do we have to make direct contact to their bald head with Walkman earphones for a point to count? Two points for connecting with the post nasal dripping red nose? Just askin'. I grew up with season tix in section 38 with an old HAG bitching and moaning about everything that went wrong. I was raised with too much respect for elders to turn around and punch her square in the nose, but if Dad and Gramps weren't there you can bet I would have thrown an errant elbow when I had a chance. I cannot stand those people. EDIT: I would never hit a lady or a man for that matter, but come on! If you can do better than Carr or Navarre/Henne/Tacopants/etc. walk down there and try. And if you are that fan, do yourself a favor and stay home......Oh, no, here we go with the I paid so I have the right argument......

Comparing Forcier's likely struggles to Henne getting booed is idiotic. 1) We had lost the previous week to a D-2 team and were getting killed by Oregon at home, when we opened the season #4 in the country. Times were tough at that point (I was in Vegas at the time and some dumb USC fan claimed that Sanchez's backup was better than Henne and my buddy popped him in the face). 2) As mentioned on here before, I hope Michigan's fans expectations have changed from "fearful to lose" at the time of the Oregon game to "excited to win" after last season.

Come on. We aren't perfect, but aren't in Philly either. All booing is disgraceful, but it's not like we do it after the first INT or whatever. He will get at least the same amount of slack as other new frosh QBs. I'm sure the players are tougher than we think - they realize that douchey booing fans are part of the game and it probably doesn't tear them up as much as we think it does.

a professional athlete for basically not showing up or coming in unprepared to play is disgraceful... I don't really think booing a ref for a horrible call is disgraceful either ( and I am a ref., not of football). Booing college athletes is a different story though. I agree it is disgraceful to boo a college athlete.

At the UM-Wisc game, the fan behind me booed Manny Harris every time he drove for the net, including those times that he scored. He also booed every time we missed a 3-pointer (mind you, after Stu Douglass took a contested 3 and missed badly, he blamed Manny, so perhaps he just hates Manny Harris and doesn't do this for other games).

well you wouldn't be anywhere long. Everyone gets boo-ed. for the most part I think it will be the old school fans who are still wanting Les Miles... there is still a large fraction of the fan base who thinks this was a stupid hire and even if RR found success here he would just leave for more money after a few years anyway. And then we would be stuck trying to change the system again. Obviously I am not in that mindset, but I work with/know MANY who are. They basically hate Bill Martin.

I can see booing a guy like Micheal Vick. Especially after he flipped off a bunch of kids that were at the game to see him, and honestly I can see booing anybody in professional sports, because they get paid to take that crap. I can even see booing a college student for things like the 2 MSU players did on the ice a few weeks ago. I cannot see booing a kid in his first year for making first year mistakes. When Henne got booed he was in his 4th year as a starter but keep in mind it was not just Henne that lost that game. The D gave up 38 points. I really hope that people will be patient with Forcier and DRob. More than that I hope that we don't need to be patient.

And I don't remember EVER booing a UM athlete. I booed a lot of so-called "holding" penalties against UM, though. In this time of transition, UM needs their fans to support them more than ever. No matter how badly any of the kids performed last season, I would be willing to bet that they all, with the possible exception of those who didn't "buy in," did their best. And that is all you can really expect from an athlete. If an athlete doesn't have enough talent to defeat the opponent, it really isn't his fault. As for Forcier and Robinson, they will make mistakes, but hopefully the overall talent level will be enough to give them ample opportunities to overcome their mistakes and win the amount of games we are accustomed to seeing UM win. It is possible that one of them could turn out to be a Henne or Leach, and start four years. We really won't know until we see how they do on the field. This year is the crucial year, because it is looking like Sheridan is now the third string QB by default. If either Forcier or Robinson becomes "the man," we really need him to not get injured, thus making the depth chart a moot point. As I posted about Threet, if Sheridan plays in very many games, UM is in severe trouble. At this point, it looks very likely that Forcier will, indeed, have to be "the man." And booing a freshman QB would be the most counterproductive reaction I could think of. Every boo carries with it the possibility of adversely affecting his learning curve. I have a feeling, though, that his skin is pretty thick and he won't let the idiots bother him. I hope so.
