Jinx.
More to the point, the links ladies are battling to make the top 15 and move on to match play. As they approach the back nine, in a tie for 13th, +2 shots to advance... No 3 putts!
4 shot lead with 8 to go.
This feels like watching Tiger during his prime in terms of atmosphere. I'm sure Phil will hit a couple way off line, it will come down to if those shots are playable.
Old man, look at my life...
As a lefty, I’m rooting for Lefty. These “get in the hole!” dudes are getting on my nerves, though. I assume they are the same people who use Axe body spray.
Axe body spray is used by high schoolers and the rare hygienic gamer, not the frat bro golf crowd.
I think the Axe users are the guys who say "Baba-booey" after the shot.
I keep wondering if Koepka is feeling disrespekt due to all of the cheering for Phil, since he won in this tourney 2018 & 2019, and always seems to have a chip on his shoulder craving more respekt. But I think he leverages it for motivation. It's gotta be tough for him to listen to the cheers for the guy you're trying to beat when you have been as successful as he has.
I doubt it, but who knows about the egos on these guys. I’m pretty sure the historical significance has crossed his mind, seeing as we haven’t see this since Nicklaus in ‘86 and I recall the gallery was nuts then, maybe more so. Some part of Brooks has to be in awe of the moment.
The crowd on 18th today ranks right there with the Nicklaus crowd of 86. The two most electric crowds I've seen in the history of the PGA. Just unreal
Actually saw it with Tom Watson some years ago when he almost won the British at something like age 57.
just hand him the Wanamaker now. tourney over.
We’ve got a bit of water to haul before we get to that point.
Phil me up
Mickelson in the drink on 13. 5 shot lead or otherwise, this thing isn’t done by a long shot.
You mean FIGJAM?
Back to back bogeys. Lead down to 3.
Phil starting to leak some oil.
3 shot lead with 3 holes to go
Make that 2 shots.
Make that 3 shots with 2 holes to go....
Phil just bombed a drive on 16. A birdie here will be HUGE?️
Can’t believe he just hit the longest drive on 16 for the tourney. Koepka ripped his and Phil rolled his shot ten yards further
BIRDIE ?️
He could very easily be needing every bit of his 3 shot lead.
Oh yeah, lead down to 2 shots. A par on 18 should clinch it?
Phil doesn't know how to make things easy.
This course in beautiful, would make for a great Ryder Cup except the hurricane issue.
Oh fuck me. Here we go...
It'll never not be weird seeing a sea of khaki shorts and polo-shirt clad men running on a golf course after another golfer while holding Bud Light cans.
As opposed to grown men painting their faces or spelling out a team name on their bellies?
It's all silly lol.
Those people are also weird, but the lawyers, accountants, and other white collar types that typically attend these events just seem less assuming.
Not used to seeing PGA pros using range finders on the course.
Fun fact. The PGA allows pro golfers to use the range finder devices for distance only. If they use it to get the slope, it’s a stroke penalty. That is why most range finder devices have the option to turn off the slope feature.
This is the rule for all tournaments, amateur and pro alike...
Good thing I'm not above cheating.
Wow. Ice in his veins to make a shot like that.
PHIL, for the win!!!!!
I know it's a tradition, but having the golfers keep their scorecards as the "official" total is absolute silliness.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it cost someone a tournament sometime because they didn't sign their card? Or wrote the wrong number down?
Robert De Vincenzo lost his tie for first place at the 1968 Masters when he signed an incorrect scorecard.
Well done Phil!
Shit we are? awesome! Gonna have to wake up the wife and let her know to get ready
Jim Nance sure has a chubby for Lefty
Score one for the "old guys". I have to put it in parentheses because I am in Phil's age category and I can't call myself old yet.
I don’t think (parentheses) mean what you think it “means”.
Wow, good catch. Sorry, I meant quotation marks. Yikes...old guy brain apparently.
