OT(ish): Les Miles (a Michigan Man) is current fan favorite for Tennessee job

Submitted by JimmyFresh on

As a Wolverine (and Vols) fan living in Knoxville.....I can tell you that there seems to be growing momentum among fans here for a Mad Hatter hire.  This coaching search has been a complete debacle, but I think a Les Miles hire would ease fan apprehension here.  However, there is little faith that the Administration will do the right thing and give him an offer.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.  With Miles' resume, it seems like a no brainer to many of us.  Will he coach here for 10-15 years?  No, beccuse of his age.  But, he can coach here for 4-6 years and get the program stablilized.  He is a proven winner and a proven recruiter in the SEC.  He would bring instant credability to a flailing program.  Many of us in Big Orange country want to see this former Wolverine get another opportunity in major college football.  And yes, he is reportedly very interested in the job.

I actually kind of like this .  Les back in the SEC and if it doesnt work Vols fans have no one to blame but themselves for being so god damned picky and chasing away so many other candidates .

At the very least I think that Les can stabilize the vols program and prevent it from hemorrhaging any further. The immediate concern I have is the transition from the spread to a physical pro style offense can be a brutal transition. Year one could be very bad for Les, but once he has his system in and the players to match I know he can turn the vols into a respectable group again.

Rich tradition, excellent facilities, outstanding record, huge stadium, fertile recruiting grounds:

  • Member of a premier conference
  • 13 SEC championships
  • 6 NCAA championships
  • Top 10, all time, in wins
  • 0.75+ all time winning percentage
  • Neyland is 5th largest stadium in the country
  • Most Hall of Fame members in the SEC

Actually, UT has a strong similarity with a school in the Big 10 who has also had a tough time during the last 10 years.
