OT(ish): Les Miles (a Michigan Man) is current fan favorite for Tennessee job
As a Wolverine (and Vols) fan living in Knoxville.....I can tell you that there seems to be growing momentum among fans here for a Mad Hatter hire. This coaching search has been a complete debacle, but I think a Les Miles hire would ease fan apprehension here. However, there is little faith that the Administration will do the right thing and give him an offer. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. With Miles' resume, it seems like a no brainer to many of us. Will he coach here for 10-15 years? No, beccuse of his age. But, he can coach here for 4-6 years and get the program stablilized. He is a proven winner and a proven recruiter in the SEC. He would bring instant credability to a flailing program. Many of us in Big Orange country want to see this former Wolverine get another opportunity in major college football. And yes, he is reportedly very interested in the job.

He has a good job and prospects to be a HC somewhere soon. Making someone a coach-in-waiting is dicey. When does it ever work out in CFB?
If Miles is doing great, they'll keep him on longer. If he's losing, they'll probably blame Martin's offense and let both go.

Jimbo Fisher was a 'coach in waiting' for a couple of years. It worked out well - national championship well, until his QB was murdered in the opener this year.

Bowden was already doing a lot less coaching and the move was made to keep Jimbo on the staff. Pretty sure they would have promoted Jimbo then if the job was open. They weren't hoping he'd develop into a viable candidate in a few years.

I mainly meant Les has recruited well in the SeC, while Tee Martin has been out west and les could probably bring on John Chavis. Tee Martin and John Chavis are both good recruiters and strong coaches, that's a lot better start than what they have there now.

I actually kind of like this . Les back in the SEC and if it doesnt work Vols fans have no one to blame but themselves for being so god damned picky and chasing away so many other candidates .

Sources tell @NBCDFWSports that former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is working on a deal to become the next coach at Tennessee. A deal could be announced Friday. I’m working on more details.

Rich tradition, excellent facilities, outstanding record, huge stadium, fertile recruiting grounds:
- Member of a premier conference
- 13 SEC championships
- 6 NCAA championships
- Top 10, all time, in wins
- 0.75+ all time winning percentage
- Neyland is 5th largest stadium in the country
- Most Hall of Fame members in the SEC
Actually, UT has a strong similarity with a school in the Big 10 who has also had a tough time during the last 10 years.

Nope--apparently Mike Leach is a taker.
