The Eagles are an aggressive, ballhawking defense...I think Kovacs will fit in nicely there; hopefully, he can work his way onto the active roster at some point.

With the way they've been performing on special teams this year with all their TDs and blocks, I think Philly is an exciting place for an up and coming defensive player to be.  If he somehow can make his way up from the practice squad to the 53 man roster, even in only special teams action, he certainly has the chance to make a name for himself.

Considering the Eagles' secondary woes, I think Kovacs could end up contributing somewhat. Anyone who can anchor the two best defenses that Michigan has had in recent memory, I'm certain brings something valuable to the table.

Anyone would be better than Cary Williams at this point, good lord.

Very good news for Kovacs, of course, and as a note to the OP, news about former players is not OT. I offer as evidence the fact that many of us here still follow Denard's career rather closely and post significant news - same treatment applies to all.

Just based on the few Eagles games I've seen this year, I think it's probably a very good fit for him as well.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was OT or not because it has nothing do with the current season. I'm actually an Eagles fan so I definitely could've provided more info in the post. The Eagles have four safeties on the current roster.

-Malcolm Jenkins was signed in FA and has been a beast thus far with 3 interceptions and a pick-six He can play either safety position.

-Earl Wolff is in his second year. He's very good and versatile when healthy but has been dealing with a nagging knee injury for the past 2 years.

-Nate Allen is servicable at best. I can see Kovacs taking his spot considering Kovacs is no worse than he is and can play special teams (Chip Kelly requires all the none starters to play special teams).

Chris Maragos is the fourth safety on the roster. The Eagles acquired him from the Seahawks via FA. He's not very good at the position but they really signed him to be a special teams ace. He's been making special teams plays all year and returned a blocked punt for a TD yesterday.

If Kovacs can compete with the last two and show off his special teams ability (which I heard he did in Miami), I don't see why he wont have a spot. As an Eagles fan, I love the Michigan to Philly pipeline. Runyan Sr., Avant, Graham, Molk, now Kovacs.

My pick is Jordan just because the overall basketball team is much better so there is a larger opporunity to have an impact on a successful program.

Safety play is hugely important but Morgan was also clearly our best defender and was our post presence. Whenever he went out our defense hurt.

Hopefully this year the perimeter defense improves to help out our young front court. Pretty please.

Definitely not OT.  I'm glad to hear the news.  As they say, Kovacs will always be a few inches too short and a couple of steps too slow but he is a great team player and a fighter and I hope he makes it.

I saw this at work and got really excited! I'm also a big Eagles fan.

Kovacs will NOT see the field as a safety barring injury, but I would love to get him in on special teams. We have a great special teams coach in Dave Fipp who could probably make good use of Kovacs' high football IQ.

It's kind of amazing that this walk-on safety is still plugging along in the league while so many other guys aren't even getting sniffs.  Good to see him get a chance.
