I wish the Dutch could call up Patrick Kluivert and Edgar Davids just for the final. My all time favorite Dutch/Suriname players ever.
VIVA ESPANA!!! I hope the Spaniards win. I've always liked their style of play and they have some great colors. Talk about a story too, from losing their first match to the Swiss all the way to World Cup Finals.
I like the Dutch too don't get me wrong. It's win-win for me whoever wins. You can't ask for two better deserving teams in the Finals...
I've always liked Spain, but I'm pulling for the Dutch.
Found this interesting article as well gives you a little insite into the history of these 2 countries....basically Hollands national anthem is all about war with spain....pretty interesting.
"And when the Spaniard harms thee
My homeland, sweet and good
The thought of it alarms me
And my noble heart spills blood."
Go Dutch!
...used to rule The Netherlands until the Dutch rebelled in the 16th and 17th century in the Eighty Years War.
Cheering for the dutch, but expecting another 1-0 spanish victory ... spain just controls the ball so well, they don't let the other team get the chances to socre ... im going out on a limb and saying i see xavi getting the goal but i have nothng to justify that prediction
all and all, should be a great final, both of these teams have been a joy to watch
According to ESPN, the top three players with the most touches on the oppositions half all play for Spain.
we're under way
I guess you're talking about the FIFA anthem
Kuyt just got owned right there. I think Sergio Ramos pushing up is going to give Kuyt more defensive duties than usual. But the opportunity for the counter is there.
I am going to miss the vuvuzuelas after this game. I need the sound of ZZZZzzzZZZZZZZzzZZZZZZZZZ as a soundtrack to my life.
I hear the DC MLS side's fans have brought them in. Yay new fan-ship.
...hear this? These horns have been used at RFK for years, but in relatively small numbers. The supporters clubs (Barra Brava, Screaming Eagles, El Norte) do NOT use them. In my experience, most of them are played by kids whose parents buy them as souvenirs. They're a minor annoyance at DCU games because it's like dozens of them throughout the stadium, not thousands.
I didn't mean to imply thousands. Just that they're there.
HEY HOLLAND, YOU'RE ALLOWED TO TOUCH THE BALL
I hate Robben, but his running style is one of a kind.
[Edit] The Dutch are up to their usual dirty tackles.
So far this seems a little more lively than the first part of most games i have seen - actually had a couple of near-scores.
ouch Kung Fu kick to the chest
fuck, de jong straight up kicked alonso straight in the chest kung fu style
The Dutch are a pretty dirty team.
im cheering for the dutch but that was straight ugly ...
cleat to the chest, miles from the ball
the dutch are really lucky their not playing 10 on 11 right now, that would be game over, they would never touch the ball then
De Jong deserved two points for that front kick to the chest. That or a red card.
Hoy Ganamos!!!!!!!
The Dutch are getting very aggressive.
Fuck that, I'd gone for the score.
soccer is a little like golf...
there are certain things you dont do ...
you dont not give the ball back after an injury just like in golf you self officiate yourself fairly ...
its about honor and respecting the game
This is Amhurica. We're all about the win, baby. Yet another reason the US will never love soccer.
/sarcasm, lots of it.
If A-Rod can't even walk on the mound, this argument is crap.
why did they do that? (holland gave away a corner kick to the goalie)
Showing up the refs for a bad call. Or sportsmanship to the goalie who didn't touch it, maybe?
They were intending to give the Spanish the ball back, but the back pass was a little aggressive so they actually gave it back. Sportsmanship....
wow he fucking fanned on it.
So is time of possession like 75+% Spain in the lead?
...has it at 63-37 Spain.
65% seemed closer to reality, but man does it seem like the Netherlands can't hold on to the ball for more than 2 passes.
Yeah, that 2% really is big there, huh?
Things like free kicks, throw-ins, corners, etc. aren't supposed to stop the clock. Just when the ref stops play for things like injuries (why it is so often called injury time) or for substitutions.
It comes down to the ref, he is supposed to punish time wasting with cards or warnings although they constantly fail. It's part of what drives fans completely mad during a game. Watching your team try to come back on the road when the other team is getting out a towel to dry the ball at every throw in (Stoke) can put one into a fit of rage.
Watching the seconds tick away feels like death.
I didn't invent/endorse the rule, just explaining why the amount of time added seems so short. Something like in basketball where the clock stops in the last two minutes may be preferable, but I doubt things will change anytime soon.
This has always been a frustration of mine since childhood. They are calling it much shorter in this World Cup compared to the usual club season / international breaks as well.
That said that was a pretty bad half, only made exciting by a couple moments of violence. Howard Webb usually loves being the center of attention, so I'm sure he loved it.
Thankfully the club season is back in a month and exciting soccer will recommence.
Wow. soccer is SO effing stupid. i hate it. i don't get why it's the world's most popular sport.
ur not welcome here
