OT: Wisconsin is extremely bad at Hockey

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Holy shit, has anyone been paying attention to how bad UW is at hockey this year? This shocks me since they were in the national championship game not too long ago.

Look at these results.

at Alaska L 0-1
at Alaska Anchorage L 2-4
Northern Michigan L 0-2
Northern Michigan L 1-4
North Dakota L 3-4
North Dakota L 1-5
at Colorado College L 2-5
at Denver L 2-3
Ferris State T 1-1 (OT)
Ferris State W 5-3
Penn State L 2-5
Penn State L 2-4
US Under-18 team L 1-4 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Michigan Tech (last night) L 1-8

They are playing Michigan Tech again in a rematch tonight. I'm a regular over at USCHO.com and their fans are calling for Mike Eaves' head.

I thought our non conference performance left a lot to be desired.. but so, e how we currently sit at #20 in pairwise. I think we can finish in the top two in the B1G and get in the tourney... third and it gets close.

Not Mike Eaves' fault unless you're criticizing him for poor recruiting. They lost an immense amount of talent from last year's team, this fall is not surprising. That's what happens when you lose nearly all of your talent.

If this table is still accurate they have seven draft picks on their roster, more than anyone except:

  • (8) Minnesota 16
  • (2) UND 14
  • (4) Harvard 11
  • (NR) ND 10
  • (NR) Michigan 10
  • (15) BC 9

and the same as:

  • (12) UNO 7
  • (6) Miami 7
  • (11) Denver 7
  • (1) BU 7

With the USCHO poll rank in front of the school.

This is crazy. I knew they were having a down season but hadn't bothered to look to see how bad. Is it wrong to be pissed they did better vs Ferris than we did? Or is that just a glass half full approach

I'd say losing 8-1 to Tech is more shocking than losing to the NTDP. The NTDP is decent and takes out a few good D1 teams a year. Getting absolutely blasted by Tech is a cold shower similar to the one we got on our trip to Houghton. Tech is never good and losing 8-1 is a sign of how far Wisconsin has really fallen

We're on the bubble right now, and with 3 of our 5 Big Ten opponents being bad (Wisconsin, MSU, OSU) and PSU being roughly equal, we have no excuse for not making the tournament
