OT - Wings vs Philly - Kronwall at it again.
Holy smokes, somebody get that Kronwall hit on Voracek up STAT. Might be a suspension, but the refs on the ice determined it was legal and Philly got a few penalties from being pissed about the hit.
Other than that, our power play is so horrible without Lids and Dats, we're more likely to give up a shorty than score a PP goal (as seen tonight).
How in the hell do you let a guy like Giroux get TWO breakaways in the same game. I hope we come back in the third with more energy/scoring chances. Wouldn't be surprised to see Philly take a few more emo penalties.
Also, that pre-game Mark Howe jersey retirement was OK, it's always great to see the reception Gordie gets everywhere.
Video embedded below.
was legal. The referees made the correct call on it, and it would be the right call ten times out of ten.
Wouldn't be shocked to see a suspension from Shanny, but it looked good to me.
I haven't seen a hit like this get a suspension before (that hardly means it hasn't happened, I just haven't seen it).
To be a charge he would have had to either a) leave his feet or b) take an excessive running start. To be boarding he would have had to be thrust violently into the boards. To be an elbow he would have had to lead with his elbow. To be head contact he would have had to both "target the head" and Voracek would have had to keep from putting himself in a vulnerable position (he didn't).
A suspension would be bullshit. Kronwall was directly in front of Voracek, who was leading with his head.
Don't lead with your head.
Loved the 2nd intermission BOOM! Kronwall'd! highlights.
Ah yes, Bill Clement whining about what looks like a legal hit. If you want to stay in the league a long time you should probably keep your head up...
I don't know if he was whining about the hit so much as saying that they should have stopped play to protect the player. He clearly was rattled, and with the attention that is being given to head injuries, I think stopping play to make sure the get the guy off the ice would not be a bad idea.
Hearing it again, I think you're probably right, and that he was referencing getting the player off the ice asap. Looks like I might have jumped the gun a bit.
Thanks, I embedded it above but you beat me to it so I'll leave it to your post.
Kronwall's hits are one of a kind, that's for sure.
Hope Voracek is okay but you have to keep the head up on open ice.

Red Wings down 3-1 for those not watching. Pretty bad so far.
I don't even know what to say about that other than "WTF"? Since when do the Wings give up shorthanded breakaways?
Wow that looked incredibly painful.
I realize this is going to sound ridiculous if you were a Flyer's fan, but it looked to me like the Voracek bent his head INTO Kronwall. And honestly, what was he thinking when he took his eyes off the player in front of him who was clearly lining up for a hit? Either way, hope he is ok.
but the first rule of contact hockey is "keep your head up". He would have been okay had he not lowered his head (well, Kronwall is a badass. He'd be better off than he is now, at any rate).
i'll never forget kronwalls huuuge hit against martin havlat in the playoffs
Ah yes, the origin of "Kronwalled." That was the background on my computer for over a year. Such a sick play.
Good solid hit this is why hitting should never be taken out of the game at a young age. It teaches players to keep their heads up nd be aware of whats happening around them.

that hit still turns me on
Seeing Mark and #9 lifting up the jersey was great, the hit was great, we have some vets right now that are not. It's the same guys who are taking up time and space.
Beautiful snipe by the Mule! too bad it wasn't a PP goal
Clean hit all the way, gonna get fined for it too.... just stupid
As a Flyers fan I was pissed about the hit right after I saw it. The more times I see the replay, although Jake's head hit Kronwall's shoulder first there was nothing other than height difference determining where his shoulder would hit him. I'm happy the Flyers managed to go after the Wings a bit though after the hit (we've had issues with no one stepping up when guys have gotten pushed around this season) and show some life but it looks like the chippiness has disappeared. With that said, I do want payback as long as it is clean although not at the expense of a potential win.
I will never understand wanting "payback" after a clean hit, it seems stupid and shortminded, those situations can be dangerous and can lead to a Tropp, Conboy incident.
Hence why I said as long as it was clean. There is nothing wrong with coming back with physicality to make it known your team won't be pushed around. If a big hit presents itself I want to see them take it (Hartnell had a pretty good one soon after and not the one he got the penalty for) but not at the expense of giving up defensive responsibilty or deliberately taking yourself out of a play. That didn't happen, the Flyers' heads cooled rather quickly and they were able to hold on for the win which was the most important.
Kronners missed an empty net right afterwards. Too busy looking overhis shoulder to see if someone was going to take a shot at him.
Hockey is a contact sport. Period.
It was pretty scary when Vorachek's arms went straight up in the air after the hit. That's not a good sign.
Nevertheless, it was a clean play. Kronwall did make contact with Vorachek's head, but that doesn't mean that the hit was purposely directed toward the head. Vorachek looked back down at the puck because he thought Kronwall was going back, but that's exactly how you get Kronwalled. The guy is so good at faking going back, which leads to the puck carrier to look back down, and then wham. The majority of his big time hits are the results of a careless puck handler. Keep your head up!
Keep your head up next time, Voracek!
Everyone's going to cry about how the contact was to Voracek's head, but it was Voracek that put it there at the last minute.
