OT: Wilfork released from Patriots
Tis a sad day

Suh gets to the QB.
He'd be good pick up, but I don't think the Lions would need him.
I'd be totally up for a 3-4 if we didn't have Ansah, I don't think he could slide into an end spot, and he really isn't a 3-4 linebacker.
It sounds like he will probably resign with New England anyway.
If he were planning to resign he likely would have just renogitiated his contract. NE is up against the cap. They are going to lose significant players especially if they keep Revis who is going to break the bank.
i could see ziggy playing as a 3-4 under down LB
I'm not a defensive schemes expert, but seems like re-signing Fairley (the disruptor) and playing him with Wilfork's plugger type would work well
Wilfork is primarily a 3-4 DT (has played some 4-3 pre Achilles injury).
Don't really think he would be a good fit, and second everyone else who thinks he will resign with the Pats
Vince Wilfork is a great player. He would be just fine as a 1-tech in a 4-3. The alignment matter less than the scheme. Wilfork is an amazing two-gapper and some defenses two-gap out of a 4-3. But he could be a great one-gap nose, too. He's just a great football player.
Wilfork will be a Patriot at a lower rate. He was beast coming off an Achilles injury.
Isn't it Wilfolk?
I'm assuming nobody will need it, but /s
It's an older joke, sir, but it checks out

This feels like a cap-cutting mechanism. Wilfork isn't leaving NE by all accounts.
By all accounts? Reading his statement sure sounds like he is. "take into consideration many things but mainly my family and see where life goes from there"
That doesn't sounds like a guy who is going to take a paycut to stay in NE. Sounds like he may be want to return home.
if they either like Alan Branch enough to replace him or theyll just resign him.
Good luck to him
Good luck to him
Seems like this is just cap negotiation. NE has basically designed their entire defense around him taking on a double-team at the point of attack. Unless they feel that he is slipping, but I didn't see it.
That's a lot to pay for a player coming down from a great career. He may resign with NE for like $4-5 a year. But if I'm him I bounce on NE as this is the 2nd time they have done this to him.
