OT: What NFL rookies to pick up off the waiver wire

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

It may be a bit early in the season, but the Week 1 waiver wire waits for no man. For those NFL fantasy gurus out there, which rookies should be picked up off the waiver wire for dynasty leagues (assuming high draft picks like Barkley are already taken)? Any other young guns looking primed for a breakout?

I think I'm going to target Austin Ekeler. Looks like he's going to be a Darren Sproles type player. 5 or so rushing touches and another 5-8 receptions per game. Great for a PPR league.

I think it’s worth noting that ekeler is not a rookie. Also sharing a backfield with Gordon means it’s unlikely he gets much play. Remember rivers threw 51 times last Sunday, that won’t always be the case

I don't know that there are any.

Typically, the good rookies have been taken. Although it may be worth considering Sony Michel or Nick Chubb if they are available in deeper leagues, especially with the injury to Jeremy Hill of the Patriots.

Generally speaking, avoid TEs and WRs as they tend to take a while to develop. If you look at top WRs from their rookie years, you are better off grabbing them in say weeks 6-10 when they are rounding in to form. Otherwise they may be a wasted spot.

TE is even worse for rookies. Hayden Hurst is hurt, Mark Andrews is also a Raven and didn't do much yesterday in a blowout. Mike Gesicki is the most highly-rated but put up a dud - which again is very common for TEs in their first year.

Phillip Lindsay in Denver had 71 rushing yards, 31 receiving yards and a TD yesterday.  Coaches say he'll be the pass catching back in that offense so he might be worth a pickup.

I'm not sure, but I bet on Kerryon in the mid-late rounds of my drafts. He'll be taking up a spot on my bench for now, but I think he'll own that backfield by week 6. Excited for the game tonight (I know I know... it's the Lions).

I'll be spending this week trying to shop James Conner around while his value is high. I'm not giving him away for cheap because I think he'll be solid, but I'm thin at wr and looking to upgrade

You might want to grab Butt. I mean, add TE Jake Butt from waivers to your roster. Depends on how deep your league and bench are, but he could be a good stash-and-wait a couple years option. He had 4 targets this week.

John Ross, Anthony Miller, John Brown, Geronimo Allison, Taywan Taylor, Michael Gallup, Chris Godwin, Calvin Ridley, Jake Butt, John Kelly damn thats all wrs til the last two but the first 4 I mentioned are ready to go now if they're available in your league, others will take a bit of time.
