O/T What do you grill for tailgating?

Submitted by ska2682 on

With just under 2 weeks until the season FINALLY kicks off, I was wondering what all you fabulous MGoBloggers grill or cook for your tailgate.  I have to admit my inquiry is to straight up steal the good ones.  I am specifically looking for dishes that can be prepared at home, transported, and cooked over a standard charcoal grill.  I don't want the hot dog/brat/burger shenanigans, something a little more exotic, but easy enough to prepare.

I'm a huge fan of chicken wings. They're really simple and you can prepare them many ways.

If you're looking to go the BBQ route I suggest something like ribs or pulled pork where you can let them cook slow and low for several hours.

So what's the protocal for folks coming in from out of town on airplanes and can't prepare a tailgate?  Can you just sort of ask to join in if something looks good or interesting?  Tailgate folks look to be pretty sociable.

Usually, if you park near someone that has a good set up you can strike up conversation. Bring something to offer like liqour, beer, snacks. We usually don't turn people away unless they don't fit in. It's usually one big party out there. However, some are more low key then others.

Plus my brother grills about 25 lbs of baby-back ribs. We got coleslaw, baked beans, Mac and Cheese, the works. We also have the regular hamburger/hot dogs goin on another grill. And when UGA plays Florida, we grill an alligator that a cousin of mine brings up from Mississippi every year!

I am all about meat on a stick, or brats.

I know you said no brats, but dude. Try this simple plan one time: cut up onions, green and red bell peppers into strips. Bring little tin pans you can buy at the grocery and fill them with beer, (cheap beer works just as well so don't blow a bunch on cooking beer) saurkraut and the onions/peppers. Boil the brats for 30 minutes in the tin filled with beer and your veggies. Remove the "baths" from the grill and finish the brats on the flames. Use the remnants of the bath for fixins if you are hip, and only add mustard. This is the way of the brat, yo.

Ok for meat on a stick I like either beef or chicken kabobs. I make a ton of different marinades, but if you want to just buy one "Soy Vay Teryaki" is the bomb.com. I will be making Chicken Satay sauce for the opener, and it will rock the house. Make full sticks of only meat or only veggies so you can cook them appropriatly depending on your liking. When finished just remove all the stuff onto a massive plate and let your friends feast away...

Arrive at carols lawn at 7am, one block back on Berkeley, regardless of game time. Perfect for night games. Three days prior place phone call to Satchels. Greet delivery van at the street. Tip driver. Devour brisket as if life depended on it.
