OT: USA v. Mexico Gold Cup Final open thread
At 9:00 PM (ET) the US soccer team takes on Mexico in the Gold Cup Final. These 2 teams do not like each other. They're playing for pride, for the regional championship, and most importantly, they're playing for a berth in the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil.
If you only get interested in soccer every 4 years for the World Cup, tune in tonight, because it will be that kind of atmosphere in the Rose Bowl.
The game can be seen on Fox Soccer and Univision.

Goal
Mexico
2-2
Bad D again
Mexico is killing us and somehow we are tied 2-2.. turn it around USA
is killing The US team. He missed his mark on both goals.
I'm sending video of this to Timmy Chandler so he knows how badly the U.S. needs him to keep Bornstein off the field.
least favorite player from USMNT. he consisently let guys come loose in space and is always ball watching. What the fuck is he doing out there?
a picture of a placenta overlain on an image of Michigan?
Well it was fun for awhile............
Cherundolo getting hurt screwed us.
I never doubt American spirit dammit.
And Freddy is still looking good.
Ugh, shades of Brazil in 2009. I fucking hate Mexico. The soccer team.
What, no card for that foul on Adu?
to the head. No surprise.
is falling apart
when Borstein can't defend properly.
if Bornstein actually defends its 2-0
USA inches from giving up *another* goal near the end of the half. I hope the US coach has his half-time butt-chewing-out speech prepared.
only for Bornstein. He's terrible
Bradley should chew himself out for switching Lichaj over to right back.
No tv and crappy internet up in the northwoods.
Edit: Nevermind. Halftime now.
Alright why couldn't Dos Santos play like this for Tottenham?
Wow great coverage by Goodson.
I wasn't expecting that
height well. He was heading everything in his little time in South Africa.
damn he is terrible tonight
I can't breathe right now. Holy cow.
Not Bornstein, bitches - not Bornstein.
I would sub Bornstein for Ream or Chandler or anybody really. They can't be any worse than Bornstein.
He's still in Germany
might as well as let air play LB instead of Bornstein defending....
Bring in Ream and move Bocanegra over to Left Back, it limits us offensively and handcuffs future substitutions, but Holy Crapwich Bornstein is overmatched out there.
is not the same quality that he was before he got hurt or we could bring him in and shift someone else outside instead of Bornstein. Adu has been a nice surprise for us so far, hope he keeps it up
Is he not on this roster? Is he still not recovered from the patella tendon injury? or did he have another injury? Haven't heard it mentioned, and if it is the old injury is he ever expected to back to near 100%? Our back line sure does miss his presence. I think it may be time to bring in spector
Was on the roster, just a mix of his drop in quality and his age ket him from seeing much action
Leftback or Defensive Midfield with his passing skills, but as a Centerback he's been flatfooted and exposed regularly. When He and Bornstien pair on the left I die a little inside. Bocanegra reminds me of Scholes in his ability to settle down the midfield and tackle, and advance the offense with his passing. Bradley needs to stop playing him as a center half and needs to stop playing Bornstien in defense. He can't defend. Play Bornstien in left midfield maybe, but not back. We have athletic, hard working defenders in the MLS. Play them. Marvel Wynne has more than enough pace to play the leftback, Chad Marshall and Geoff Cameron are solid defenders, Omar Gonzales is good too. Why don't the best MLS defenders ever play, Bob?
Mexico already used up 2 subs and they played a ton of minutes especially an OT win over Houndras. They could be tired in the 2nd half which could play into USA's favor. If Bradley can make timely sub of Aguedelo in 60 min so Juan have fresh legs and can run behind Mexico defense late in the game for an important possible goal.
Good call Mr. Bradley.
OMG so lucky they didn't score there!
This might be the worse I have seen a US defense look since the abortion that was the Spain game a few weeks ago... Looks like every time Mexico brings the ball up they get behind the D.
3-2, them.
Ouch. This is getting hard to watch
This defense is SAD
First the near goal where they were LUCKY not to score, and then this shit
smh
Once again, bad clearance by a central defender, and turnover right in the middle of the field outside the 18 leads straight to a goal.
Welp.
4srs
daam, defense looking like Greg Robinson is coaching them
When does the convo begin about who the next national goalie is? Spare me the typical rhetoric. Howard makes big saves but he's quickly Osgood'ing IMO
he's one of the best goalie in the world (top 10 easily IMO). It's just that he has been under fire thanks to shitty USA defense.
we are just used to him coming up with one of those saves at least...
He stands on his head and then lets the worst damn ones in. I know what he's capable, I just want to see it consistently
Which goal are you referring to? The first and third weren't really saveable. The second would have been cleared if that dude didn't bounce it off his own leg trying to clear it.
he gives up soft goals but you only can do so much as a goalie especially when your defense leaves you exposed. The goal is HUGE
He can stand on his head at times, but he's getting NO help.
