OT: U.S. Men's National Hockey Team Falls 5-2 to Czech Republic
The chances for a U.S. medal at the world juniors are slim now, and Michigan-bound, Jacob Trouba, made a critical turnover that led to a late Czech goal. For all of you Red Wings fans, Czech goalie and Detroit signee, Petr Mrazek stopped over 50 shots and generally played out of his mind. Hopefully, the Wolverines can win at the Joe tonight.

Awful game. I am a huge fan of this tournament and so many people had picked the US to win this thing....not even reaching the medal round is beyond unacceptable.

Awful goaltending from the US throughout. Choked a great opportunity away.

agreed... after watching this tournament im not that disappointed in losing both Jack Campbell and John Gibson. Both looked like Palmisano-like sieves against mediocre competition.

couldn't agree with you more, rosedani

If I've figured this correctly, our chances of advancing are approaching slim and none.
Denmark, which hasn't won yet and has -23 GD, really needs to beat Finland tonight, otherwise FInland has 2 wins. Next best thing would be some kind of OT, so Finland doesn't get the full 3 pts.
Then tomorrow, we need to beat Canada, who's been killing everybody (+20 GD), and the Czechs need to crush FInland, such that even if we tie FInland, we have greater GD.
/Sad panda.

As a US native and now dual-citizen here, for a full week i am going to have to endure constant taunting and jabbing from my co-workers. Please God, somehow keep the Canadians from winning the gold medal. . . . .and GO BLUE!

Amd why whould that be, would you rather have Russia or Sweden win....

because the Canadians are so arrogant about "owning" this tournament and downplaying any other country's relevance in it.

For example, cue "USA Sucks" being played on the scoreboard video throughout the USA/CAN game (Jack Johnson game) in Vancouver WJ in 2006. Nice international sportsmanship - if "Canada Sucks" was scrolling across the scoreboards in Buffalo last year, Canada would have gone into meltdown.

No, there is an arrogant edge to it here - Canada first, but if not Canada then "anybody but America".

"constant taunting and jabbing from my co-workers"
Seriously?
Around these parts the US team is considered something of an annual annoyance in the tournament but, hell, we've won this thing 14 times (including five in a row, twice). Your co-workers should be acting like they've been there before...which they have.

Perchance Trouba is a spy.....
I am Czech-American so I am sort of torn on this one =)

Finland was up 10-1 on Denmark last night (Denmark had to win against Finland for USA to stay alive) so today's NYE game between Canada and USA doesn't have as much significance.
It's a real shame the USA couldn't beat either the Czechs or the Finns. They were upset in both games. Disappointing tournament for the US.
