OT: Urban Meyer's lavender jersey punishment offends LGBT group [LOCKED]
Apparently Urban's disciplinary actions aren't PC. Fortunately he and his staff "have core values of respect and honor within our program, and these are two principles that are central to my personal life, my coaching and to Ohio State and its athletics programs. Bias has absolutely no role in how we think or operate"
The three exclamation points are kind of weird.
Edit: UFR: Any exclamation points seem juvenile.
Slow board day, I guess.
Edit on the way
I dont think this is worth talking about any more than talking about players congratulating new recruits or Braylon's oppinions on scholarships.
Ugh Urban Meyer but geez that "controversy" was insane
... there should be no reason why he has to apologize for having his team wear non-masculine colors.
Because we live in a world where such things elevate to the level of a grievance.
And grievances must be addressed ... particularly emotional grievances ... particularly emotional grievances issued from those differentially preferred.
*sigh* ... we are doomed.
Wait, so colors offend people now?
There aren't many colors you can pick to single someone out as "different" on a practice field. They probably have three colors of practice jerseys already, and what else is going to "pop"? Maybe this group just doesn't understand the limited amount of jersey colors?
...that's actually really lame for that LGTB group to raise a stink over that.
That is actually one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. I'm surprised no one has picketed Iowa for having a pink locker room.
Side note: reducing the number of exclamations from 3 to 1 didn't make the title any less Bush League.
I'm obviously no fan of Meyer and Ohio, but... Come on, give me a break.
Scarlet and Gay, I wonder what extremes they would go to in an attempt to get their visitors locker room changed.
A reach at best.
Scarlet and Gay. Giggle.
All kidding aside, if I was ranking the names of college LGBT groups in order of coolness (and I'm not, btw) this one would have to be near the top.
I respect the LGTB community for wanting more rights and respect, but how do you except to get it when all you do is bitch and complain!
If this group claims to represent 1% of LGTB community in this country, they're vastly overestimating their reach. This shouldn't be seen as anything more than what it is: a college group complaining about a campus-specific issue.
can haz all your colors.
"I'm in a weird position, because I like rainbows, but I'm not gay. So whenever I go out wearing a rainbow shirt, I have to put 'Not gay.' But I'm not against gays, so under that I'll have to put '... but supportive.' It's weird how one group of people took refracted light. That's very greedy, gays."
- Demetri Martin
First of all, as others have said, the LGBT community doesn't own the color lavender. They're just trying to cause controversy to raise awareness. Second, if that is how he is punishing players for loafing, I am no longer worried about playing Ohio, because they are gonna be soft. That is the weakest punishment I've ever heard of. Third, that Sabino quote is ridiculous. It's absurd when guys are so horrified at the thought of wearing lavender, pink, purple, etc. It's just another color. Be a little more confident in your manhood. Homophobia is so 1995. No one thinks you're gay because you wear lavender. And if they do just tell them you're not. It's not the end of the world.
Reality keeps stealing some of their best material.
So now groups get to claim colors and other people aren't allowed to use them? Since when has lavender long been associated with the LGBT community?
Hey! If you don't know anything about gay slang, then you should definitely go to this website. There you will read in detail about all the names and it seems to me that it will be useful for you and for your acquaintances on the Internet. After reading the article, you will understand everything and this is really cool.
