OT - University of Wisconsin cuts ties with Nike

Good job by Wisconsin. More attention needs to be brought to shitty business practices like these.
The article doesn't say, but is Wisco with Adidas now?
Wisconsin was never actually a Nike school; they've been outfitted first by Reebok and (for a few years now) Adidas. This was just a minor licensing deal.
"Its contract with Nike generated $49,000 in royalty income for the university last year."
Don't think this is that bold of a move by Bucky....this is pretty much pocket change to both parties.
Nike was still allowed to produce products for the university. Adidas is the official brand for the uniforms.
Let's not pretend any of the major shoe companies are especially nasty compared to the others--including Adidas.

I always thought they had just Adidas, shows how much I know.
Me too.
... like the working conditions in the slaughterhouses at Green Bay are anything to write home about...

Do you really think that meat packers in Green Bay work under similar conditions to shoe manufacturers in Honduras? What UW has done may not be ground breaking or earth shattering, but it is the right thing to do.
this is like arresting the parents for the kids crimes.
hemisphere after Haiti. Companies go there w. the assurance that the govt doesn't enforce labor regs.
Yes, all the shoe cos are dirty, but Nike is dirtier. They could recoup those wages in a heartbeat. Bravo for Wisconsin. All the better if they can draw some attn to the issue. I mean, this is how you get companies to change, right? Giving a shit about other people--especially if you're going to profit from their labor--and applying pressure.

I noticed the student mentioned from UW is Johah Zinn; might be a chip off the old block.
