OT: Tigers 9/28/09 (ALSDS)

Submitted by Braylons Butte… on
That's the AL Semi-Divisional Series with the Twins, in what acts as a quarterfinal of sorts. I predict a 2-2 split with the way the pitching matchups go (Blackburn-Porcello, Duensing-Verlander, Pavano-Bonine, Baker-Robertson). How do you guys see things going down? I can't say I like facing the White Sox the last 3 days with things potentially on the line... On a related note, does anyone know how to get a stream that works with Macs for tonight and this week? The myp2p software is Windows based and I just switched computers.

Then hopefully with verlander, porcello, and jackson the last 3 games and the twins facing Greinke, we can ice it. In 06 they had a two game lead entering the last weekend & got swept by the Royals to blow it, but this time there would be no magical run to the world series to make us forget about it.

Winning the series would be really nice, but i wouldn't say crucial. Tigers are still up 2 games last time i checked and a series split would basically force the twins to have to sweep the Royals. If the royals can do what they do all so well (i.e. 2006) then I think with Verlander, Porcello, and jackson pitching, knock on wood, we got this in the bag.

If the ALDS schedule lets them do a 3-man rotation, then Verlander in game 2 makes sense but if the schedule makes that tough then they need Verlander to pitch game 1. He's the one guy who can dominate, and they simply have to have him pitching two games in the series. Porcello could get there eventually, but he's not there now, and Jackson is the same guy he's always been, just with a hit-lucky first half making his season ERA look good.

But as it stands, Verlander would start the last day of the season, making it pretty impossible that he'd start game 1 against NY (notwithstanding the possibility of needing a playoff). This is why this series is pretty crucial in my book (we don't want to go into the last game with a 1 game lead needing a W). So unless we clinch by Saturday, it would be Verlander in the last game, and Jackson would either pitch the playoff game against Twins, or Game 1 v. NY. Verlander very well might have to be pushed to Game 3 in this scenario, unless they pitch him on short rest.

FYI, it sounds like though the Sox are playing youngsters and scrubs more against Cleveland, the full lineup (well, whoever is healthy) will be in against the Tigers until the division is clinched one way or the other. Sox pitchers should be some combo of Garcia, Hudson, Buehrle (who may be shut down, they're skipping him tomorrow, would probably pitch Saturday if he does pitch in the series) and Danks. Floyd is shut down for the year and Peavy pitches Wednesday.

Rodney hasn't really blown any leads, he's done a great job with saves, but absolutely sucks when he's not pitching in save situations. I agree about Leyland, though, this team has won DESPITE him, not because of him. If I see him let Laird play so he can kill our chance at a rally with a double play one more time...

Hey I was being sarcastic. I saw all the negbanging going on in that other thread and got a little jealous, cuz I was too late to get involved in it. In previous threads I have nominate Leyland for MOY, Verlander and Rodney for CY, and Porcello for ROY, Called Cabrera best Tiger hitter since Greenberg, nominated Guillen for comeback player of Late Sept. Now I will add Inge is best fielding 3rd basemen I have seen since Brooks Robinson. You can all suck on my big Neg inch.
