Well it looks like the NCAA might actually do something about McDonalds cash bag gate, so who wants a job that will be penalized in the not to distant future.

Super quick hire by Tennessee, obviously a result of the relationship between the new AD and Heupel. Interestingly UCF fans were pretty done with Heupel, as the team has gotten worse over his tenure with some horrendous defenses (shout out to highest paid G5 coordinator Randy Shannon). Heupel's UCF teams were regarded pretty highly by SP+, but their records the last two years didn't quite live up to that level. The bet is that a Heupel offense with a Kevin Steele defense is more balanced. I'd also look for Tennessee to pursue Ole Miss OC Jeff Lebby, who previously worked under Heupel at UCF.

I do agree that this job wasn't too desirable after the way Tennessee ran Pruitt out of town. Heupel's relationship with Danny White should help in that regard, but I wouldn't be surprised if the two of them are on thin ice with the Tennessee boosters.

Seems like a perfect stepping stone move for Heupel.   If he can succeed at Tennessee under the current circumstances, he'll continue the upward move.    Or maybe he'll be a program savior and will be content living a life of luxury in Knoxville for the next decade-plus.

The program

This is a dead-end job; the roster is already decimated by transfers.  They have not had a 10-win season since 2007 and in that time, they have had 8 losing seasons yet the fan base feel like they should be a national contender to the point they were willing to put their program on probation to get rid of a coach.  I hope Heupel enjoys the money while it last.

Sometimes when I feel bad about our program, I think of Tennessee or Nebraska and remember it could be a lot worse. Nebraska has a recruiting disadvantage. It's truly impressive Tennessee has been so completely inept in the fertile recruiting grounds of the south. Can't cheat right and can't find a coach who can do anything.

Exactly. Things suck here but at least Harbaugh has had multiple 10 win seasons.

Tenn is going on 14 seasons under 10 wins and I honestly dont see that streak ending any time soon.

I wonder what will happen first: UM beats OSU or Tenn has a 10 win season.

I hope like heck its the former.

Nebraska would be the worst. The were the KINGS of college football for a stretch in the 90's and the Frazier led team is maybe the best team to ever play college football. What an unreal team on BOTH sides of the ball. They have fallen face first into the mud and Frost with his big mouth thought he return it to the Osborne days. He has found out that its not that easy just like Harbaugh found out that winning in the pros does not translate to outcoaching your opponents for a win every Saturday. Like him or not, Urban Meyer is much better than Harbaugh and Meyer is greasy and slimy enough to win the NFL and he will

When all of the CC: threads for Michigan were being posted, Josh Heupel's name popped into my head. I researched his career and results and quickly decided never to mention his name as an option again.

Maybe Tennessee tried to deliver their coaching search consulting firm's retainer fee in a McDonald's bag.

UT is a great job and maybe now Heupal can bring it back to what it was. The SEC East needs Tennessee to be good again and honestly the country does and its like well Michigan in many instances being good again when it comes to beating a team with a pulse.

"UT is a great job."   It is a "great job" in that it is a P5 job, which is not a common commodity.  Period.  However, it is currently a dumpster fire.  If you are a coach who already has proven himself, like Urban Meyer or even Pat Fitzgerald, you wouldn't come close to touching this "great job".  If you are an upstart like Josh Heupel who says, "here's my chance to do something at the next level" then it's a great opportunity.   Heupel isn't going to be thrown the keys to a Porsche like a USC, Michigan or a Texas for his first P5 job, so this is his best chance.  With diligence and skill, he should be able to rise above Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri and Vandy.  Consistently beating GA and FL will be a significant challenge.  It may turn out that it requires many trips to McDonalds to achieve.

Hmmm.

This morning user b618 starts topic asking about living in Tennessee. Hears from others that it is great, especially in Knoxville.

Shortly after, Josh Heupel hired as Tennessee coach.

Just a coincidence? Or have we just discovered that Josh Heupel is b618?

Yeah, can't imagine UT is particularly excited about Heupel.  Seems like an okay coach but not a game-changer in terms of recruitment or gameplanning.
