OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - Speed & less speed

Submitted by JeepinBen on

Well, back on an actual Tuesday again! We're a hateful buch of car nerds, as last week's "Cars you hate" thread saw >100 responses.

This week, let's get the bragging and whatever the opposite of bragging is. What is the FASTEST car you've owned/driven/ridden in (whatever makes the best story) and similary, what is the SLOWEST? Slow could mean your jalopy, or that 48 HP Austin Healey that's so fun at the limit... despite the limit being low.

Let's hear about the fast and the slow

5500lb vehicle that pulls 7500lbs. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Hit 150 from LA to Vegas and it was still pulling. Even with 15" brembos and all wheel drive, I backed off at that point, lol. Best part is SRT includes a track day with every new purchase and you can pay much less than track insurance for additional SRT track events they have throughout the year. Use their cars so your car stays pristine. They bring the entire SRT line (except for viper) and you can really experience all the potential of the various models in a track environment. Slowest cars were the multiple Ford Econoline vans my dad made me drive throughout highschool and college. Leftovers from his business and they were slooooooow.

Porsche C4S Cab or BMW M5 are probably the fastest cars I've owned...with my first car '78 MGB being the slowest...

That said, I have driven my friend's 918 Spyder...887 bhp...and that's a seriously fast car.

Wasn't a quarter miler but it never stopped accelerating on long stretches. I drove 16 miles home from work at 3am back then. Cops were all in bed. My best man got off at midnight and they were racing someone and got in serious trouble but the deputies were off duty by 3. Mine was 18 years old, wonder what that car was like new. Slowest was a Geo Metro 4 door. It would not hit 60.

Fastest: 87 Mustang that ran ~6sec in the quarter mile.

Slowest: Government issue AM General HMMWV. It ran like a lineman trying to score a TD, but it was a blast.

Was clocked at 137mph by a sheriff. Didn't end well.

Slowest car was the summer I spent driving full time at ups. The school bus sized truck I had to use for my route wouldn't go over 55mph and my area was 20minutes away from the bldg so I had to take the freeway. I would literally stand on the accelerator and if you miss timed a shift it would bog the engine down something fierce. I think they've retired that one finally.

Fastest car I owned: 89' Rx7 turbo 2 w/ a swapped 383 stroker and a S/C. Dyno'd at 585hp at the wheels. Scary fast.

Fastest riden in: 1200 hp GTX.

Slowest owned: probably the $500 Suzuki Sidekick that I bought just for Michigan winters. Tried to get that thing stuck and would not do it.

Fastest I've driven was my sisters ex's vette. Would pull high 10s. Fastest I've o owned was the first car i bought in high school, a 64 1/2 mustang. Never timed it after i fixed it up, but it weighed almost nothing and had a built 289 and a great rear end. Slowest was my s10 when the transmission started to go..

The fastest car I have ever owned was the one I sadly I had to give up about 10 months ago because I didn't want to do the necessary engine rebuild - the police interceptor version of the Impala. It had that V8 they had to shoehorn in there, but it was pretty fast and turned flat and beautiful. The fastest one I've ever driven is my dad's 1968 Firebird, which I keep telling him I plan to sticker at the estate sale as "give to me".

911 Porshe - It was a work owned car.  It was like getting fired out of a slingshot.  Wow!

Toyota Echo - It was slow. It was ugly.  It was also like the little car that could - it always started and took me many places.  It was cheap and sipped fuel.  I ran snow tires on it in the winter and I never got struck.  If only my old girlfriends would have been as dependable as that little car - LOL.

Fastest: detuned (slightly) stock car at Joliet Speedway at the Richard Petty NASCAR Challenge. I did 140 around the track and was not near fastest that day. Slowest: 1953 Cockshutt C30 farm tractor. 4th gear is about 18 mph. I'm use it to launch my boat.

Pontiac G8 V8 is the fastest piece of hardware owned.  Its not king of the hill but it makes things look big in the window.

Slowest is either a Penske medium duty moving truck or my 88 Custom Deluxe pickup with 15,000 lbs of trailer and machinery in tow.

Fastest car I've owned was a 2003 Mustang GT. Compared to most sports cars today it was slow but it sure was fun to drive. Had it up to 120 once, I had stupidly allowed myself to be goaded into racing a turbocharged Focus on the expressway, then we passed a state trooper who had someone else pulled over. I slowed down pretty quick and that was the end of that.

Slowest is a car a friend of mine borrowed, it was a 1980's Chevette and floored on the expressway I think he may have gotten it up to 60mph. It had absolutely no acceleration.
