OT-Separate OT Board

Submitted by IBleedMaizeNBlue on
Can we make a separate board for OT subjects? It's gotten to the point that the frequent majority of the posts on MGoBoard are OT. The salient information pertinent to Michigan sports gets buried behind people selling their couches or something.

Is it that hard for you to scan the 25 topics on the first page, with a few OT posts mixed in? (There are only 20 topics that have even been posted in today) If it has been a few days, and you need to click on the second page, is it really that hard? I sure hope you aren't only relying on the MGoBoard box on the side of the page, because then you'd just be stupid.

I actually kind of like the idea of an OT board. As the lazy individual I am, I would be glad to know the topics are already organized to save me effort. It's not really a big deal at all, but could be a usefull thing to have done.

should have complaints tab, where all the whinners can complain or make useless suggestions that clog the board. Opps never mind this post would have went directly to the compaints and useless suggetion tab.

dude, an OT board is a reasonable suggestion and calling a guy a whiner because he suggests it is unnecessary. However, it is May and there's just not a lot going on outside of recruiting stuff. If this was an issue during the season I'd be more concerned; as it is I'm OK with OT stuff.

B, please make an OT board. This place is starting to turn into RCMB. Which is nice because it means you're getting more traffic, but I really don't want to wade through a "Who's hotter" or "Bump when drunk" post to get to some relevant conversation. The reason I come aboard was the (mostly) intelligent football conversation. If I wanted to discuss that stuff I'd go hang out in Uniscorn. Oh, wait... I just really think it's OT things that drive the intelligent conversation away. It's like having an entire community of what's his name, the guy who posted the dead body pics. And yes, I know it's the offseason, but still.

How about we table this idea until the end of summer? If there is still the same amount of OT posts in the middle of the football season, I would be all about separating the OT posts off on their own. But since it is May right now, the few on topic posts are people with anxiety disorder freaking out about high school juniors that may or may not like Michigan. Can we wait to see if things work themselves out once we have real news to post and talk about? And as someone that has been on this website for a few years (lurked for a little while) I think these sorts of issues are the good kind to have since it stems from increased traffic.

For instance, currently 10 of the top 25 posts are OT with such topics as Paying taxes in Ohio and mocking people from Downriver. While I'm all about mockery (surprise, I know) and I'm glad people see this board as a valuable resource, I just think it's time.

having a few "OT: Knocked the F*** Out!" posts mixed in with football news provides for a good mix IMO. also not a lot of people would check the OT tab i think. its may, the OT posts will decrease and football posts will increase sooner or later

i don't see OT posts as being a problem. This board doesn't get enough posts for them to be a big deal. I'm much more concerned with having 4 or 5 threads devoted to the same subject.

Most of the OT posts don't get that many views. They linger on the board for a while mainly because there just isn't much traffic right now. Removing them would make the board very slow-moving. It's not like on-topic stuff is getting shoved off. If you want to post a "OMG I just looked at a high school junior's Facebook page and think he likes us!" post, knock yourself out.

we need to legislate every facet of the board. Even the premium boards have their share of OT discussions this time of year. To be honest I consider anything regarding football or sports played in Michigan to be on topic.
