OT (sadly) - March Madness Day 1 Open Thread
I know a lot of people will be at work until the later games, but I know there will be some people watching these early games. All four look like snoozers, but odds are that one will turn into a nail biter. Hopefully it is ND-Northeastern. With my luck it will be Zona, since I have them winning it all.
The coach!
I can't stop watching it.
Is this the same coach that got hurt during the team celebration after the conference championship game?
It was intentional. You can tell by the way he turns his head and extends his arm so early.

Looks like Texas might be the 3rd Big XII team to lose today. Still 10 minutes left in the half so obviously anything can happen. But 0-3 early on in this tourny for them would be terrible. <smile>
This Butler game is ugly. Really ugly. Like vintage Big Ten ugly.
SMU is just stone cold right now.
Roosevelt Jones is almost literally playing on one leg right now and Texas still can't score. Finally they attacked Jones and drew a foul because he can barely move. I know he is Butler's leader, but there is no way your team is more effective with him out there.
Huge, huge shot for Butler. Now it comes down to actually making free throws.
Also, SMU coming back in their game.
I hadn't thought about it, but how weird would it be if two of the 3 seeds lost and the third barely survived, but all of the 6 seeds win? I wonder if that has ever happened (with one pod left to go obviously).
So much for the Big 12 - what a disaster
Butler wins. The Big XII loses. SMU rampaging.

SMU doing everything in their power to blow this. Wow.
WTF was that? Goaltending?
uh wtf just happened?
I'm really hoping Baylor and ISU are the only hits I take today. As I say that, UCLA wins, which furthers my bracket falling from grace.
Worst. Call. Ever.
What a bullshit call.
SMU got fucked on that call, clearly not goaltending.
Extremely tough call to make on that goaltending, but I think it was the right call. It looked like the ball would have been long but would have hit the rim on its own.
It was short and right. If they did a picture and picture in slow motion of the top view and the isometric view we'd be able to see if it would've hit or not. I'm 90% sure it doesn't touch the rim, was probably better left uncalled when it was so clearly off the mark. The ref on the side that called it only had a side view and couldn't tell how far right it was. Bad call.
HOLY SHIT
I turned off the UCLA game because I figured it was over and was going to turn into a free throw shooting contest. Turned it back on to see UCLA's celebrating. Wow. What a shit storm this tournament has already been.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, Ohio State is going to pull this one out (per that guy).
LOL at the ending to the UCLA- SMU game (or why I can't watch college basketball 101). How terrible do you have to be to let that happen? Just awful, awful, awful. Seriously, you had a choice between allowing a clear miss and goaltending the ball so you lose. Obviously, the college player chooses to goaltend.
People will call that exciting, but it's exciting in the same way a bum fight is exciting.
That kid made such a blunder... let the ball hit the rim damnit!
It wasn't going to touch rim, it was wide to the right.
I also disagree with this. I think the ball was just going to hit the rim.
Even if that ball grazed the rim, it was the outside edge of the rim while it was already past the point of going in. I think it was actually an air ball. And it directly gave UCLA the game. Seriously, worst call in any sport I have watched live given the situation.
I disagree. It doesn't matter if it's clear the ball won't go in. The rule is that the ball has to be completely clear of the rim to be reboundable. The right call was made.
Except that the ball didn't hit the rim and wasn't going to. It was long and wide.
Nope. I think it was going to barely touch it.
I just don't see it. I think that shot was clearly off target and wasn't over the rim. I also think if it's so close that so many people see it differently it's something that should not be called in the last 10 seconds of an NCAA tournament game with the game on the line. Refs almost never call clear fouls in that situation, but these guys call the extremely questionable 3 point goaltend? IMO it's terrible and UCLA doesn't deserve to move on.
Yeah. I don't blame the player trying to get a ball and not allowing a tip-in because the shot wasn't close. Just a terrible call.
Man, I really hope VCU beats the absolute fuck out of OSU. That would be back-to-back tournaments that OSU gets - wait for it - bounced...in the first round of the tournament.
DAMN I'M GOOD.
I loved that game. I was in Chicago for that one and remember all the haters saying how VCU was going to hands us our asses. NOPE.
Ohio State please pull this one out.
Normally I would wish bad things for you (not really, but you know what I mean) for saying this, but I'm assuming you have money on this, so you are forgiven.
Thank you kind sir.
Probably just tired of his bracket getting trashed on the first day.
