I’m surprised I didn’t see this one posted, but Richard Donner past away at 91. Directed/Produced great films like The Omen, Superman, The Goonies, and Lethal Weapon. As far as I know(and nothing in the article), the reasons of his passing were not mentioned. Either way, I loved his films and it is very sad to see he passed, but at least he lived a pretty good and long life.

RIP Mr. Donner.

Was Richard Donner a U of M grad?  I read a couple news releases yesterday but didn't see it mentioned.

Anyway, still not seeing anything other than he attended Parker Junior College and NYU, but dropped out before attaining a degree.

Here's the Encyclopedia Britannica info on him with a very extensive list of his many works. Definitely a life well-lived.

Actually, I was rather surprised that it didn't get a mention either, and I say that because there are quite a few people here - myself included - that are quite avid cinephiles and things like this do tend to get a mention around here, especially during the summer when there isn't much else to discuss.

In addition to "Superman", "The Goonies" and the "Lethal Weapon" films, "The Toy", "The Omen", "Free Willy", and I believe the first X-Men film (and many others) are on his list too, so quite the career indeed.

I loved the Goonies as a kid, but "kids these days" have been underwhelmed by it (small sample size). The pacing is noticeably slower than current movies.

I liked a lot of his movies but I was kind of hoping he had some connection to the Donner party because that story is fascinating.
