OT: Pam Ward wants to call NFL games
Unless by some chance there is a woman who plays or coaches in the NFL successfully (not just 'the first' or 'the only') or maybe gains recognition in her own right as a sportswriter, I don't think she should be calling a game. One of the nicer things about the 21st century is most people believe that if you've earned it, you've earned it - regardless of race, gender, etc. Otherwise what merit does anyone have to call a game above the rest of us at home on the couch? Picking a woman to call a game for the sake of diversity or political correctness rather than her own merit (as a man would) does no one any good in the long or short run.
By this argument, I don't think men announcing gymnastics or figure skating or whatever are that creepy because men have also earned merit in those sports. However, if somewhere in Bizarro world childbirth was an Olympic sport, I would be kind of unsettled if a man was doing the play-by-play.
Please get her away from college football.
In that case, let her do all the blacked out Lions games.
She would stick up for Pam Ward, and call me sexist when I complained about her announcing. Now that she knows a bit more, she complains even worse than I do - if there's going to be a token female announcer, Mrs. Lo wants it to be someone who's going to represent the gender well.
This is my first year not playing fantasy football since 1998 so this is just one more reason that I will probably not watch an NFL game this year.
She would almost be an improvement over Tony Kornhiser. Not a joke.
He is great on PTI, but should stay out of announcing.
That is all.
Is there going to be NFL Europa Part Deux? Send her over!
I would post how I truly feel about this, but it might be the post that gets comments closed, so I'm not going to. Suffice to say that I don't think she should be calling peewee football.
I work Sundays so the TV volume is never that loud anyway.
I would prefer that she work on Sundays as opposed to Saturdays. I can see her announcing the Lions on a regular basis.
I'd prefer she call Towson-Hoftra field hockey games on CBS College Sports.
She probably would do great covering the great outdoor games. I gurantee she has tons of flannel in her closet.
I think she would do better calling games if she would just talk in her natural voice tone which just so happens to sound like James Earl Jones.
he always cover games of absolutely no importance and which no one is watching.
Hell, I'd follow her anywhere!
That episode with her pissing and moaning during a commercial break when there was a kid down on the field during a Marshall game, and she obviously didn't want to have to adlib when they cut back to live. There's no room for that. Send her to play by play Women's softball, she'd feel a lot more at home there, she might even find a new girlfriend.
Pam Ward is a bad announcer - like every single one out there not named Brent Musberger or Al Michaels. She's hardly extraordinary, and hardly worse than the D-team clown that Fox and CBS roll out now.
