OT - Ohio State fails to impress 5-Star DE ($)

Submitted by GoWings2008 on

Curious how Urban Meyer is choosing to pay attention to a 5 star athlete who comes to visit Columbus.  Without giving too much from the (paywalled) article, Lorenzo Carter was less than impressed:  "None of the coaches were there. Coach (Urban) Meyer left before I got there. Nobody was there. It was just (offensive coordinator Tom Herman), the coach who recruits me -- he was there with his son."

Way to go, Urbz...way to go.

I know Urbs is going to get his fair share of excellent recruits, but I find it interesting how we never really hear recruits say bad things about our coaches or program like that. The coaches down in Columbus seem to be taking a beating lately.

To give Urb the benefit of the doubt, apparently the kid just felt like dropping by after an ND visit. With a days notice you can't appropriately plan a visit for any recriut no matter how big or small. I'm sure almost all the coaches were off doing something and that was probably explained to Carter and these quotes probably aren't as telling as we think.

Maybe their new approach is to have the assistant coaches kid show them "a good time".

Carter made an unscheduled visit.  No great surprise that the rest of the staff were elsewhere.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with the Buckeye visitor but I'm agreeing with the Buckeye visitor. If indeed Urban has learned he doesn't need to put his marriage and family on pause every time a 5-star he won't get comes by to visit, it's less likely he'll burn out again as he did at Florida. All "he's a closer" jokes aside, Urban has several very good players at that position with sophomore eligibility and while he could have helped himself--more so with other recruits this kid talks to--by rolling out an instant red carpet, there's always more work you can do at your work, and I can't really criticize him until I'm putting in 75% of the hours he has to.
