OT: Not All Cavs Fans Boo the Block M

Submitted by mGrowOld on

I know there was some discussion the other day about the Cavs flashing the Block M up on the scoreboard to get fans to boo (they do).  Well I wanted people here to know that not all people in attendance boo when they see the famed block M and I have proof.

Last Thursday as I was heading in I saw a familiar face from college and yelled out "Phil".  Sure enough, the great Phil Hubbard was next to me and I had a chance to talk to him for a bit as we walked in and even got him to join me in a "GO BLUE" cheer which I'm sure stunned the people around us.

And FWIW my Cavs arent dead yet.  I predicted Cavs in 7 before it started and I'm sticking with it.  We're going to win tomorrow night and then again on Friday.  And yes, you can reback raback it!

Any team which has won a championship in the last 50 years is probably on Cleveland's hate-list.

I imagine they're not flashing the Chicago Cubs logo to encourage booing, Cubs are too lovable (historically).

I would have assumed that not all Cavaliers fans would boo it just based on the distribution of people on MGoBlog alone. I mean, if this board is any indication, we have significant representation as a fanbase at large (not just restricting it to the blog) in northeastern and north-central Ohio, with many of those people having Cleveland sports allegiances. Of course, it's the perfect mix in Phil Hubbard - Canton, OH native, Michigan alum, former Cavalier.

Barring a miracle, maybe two, your Cavs are done. Knowing how Lebron has mailed it in before I wouldn't be surprised to see a blowout in game 6 to clinch for Golden State.

This is amazing to me.  I'll never understand why the Ohio sports culture is so invested in just hating Michigan.  Can you imagine somebody throwing the Buckeye logo up on the jumbotron at The Palace during a Pistons game to get fans to boo?  Granted you have to imagine there actually being fans at the Palace, but if they were there, I imagine they would be staring at the screen with a confused look on their faces.

It's still a dumb move on Cleveland's part.  Maybe they should show a logo of Golden State, the team they are actually trying to beat.

If they don't hate Golden State enough to boo, they will in a couple of games.

I know that because I know mgrowold is a fan of both(unless the past draft picks scared him away from Cleveland). And then I see you wrote it. Got me to thinking though. I sure hope my wife never figures out all that I remember about people on here. She's always getting mad at me because I never remember what she tells me, and here I am remembering useless trivia about people I don't even know. Anywho, cool story, bro. Go warriors. But most importantly, go Blue!!

Being an old guy, I too have been rooting for the Cavs to end the 51 year drought that Cleveland fans have endured since the last championship by the Browns in 1964 (2 years before the first SB.)

However, this is so bush and, right now, I couldn't care less who wins.

Cleveland's probably done in this series, but I never thought they were particularly anti-UM outside of the usual "boo everything from MI" types.

While it's always been there, it really started when Tressel came one the scene and owned us. Now every Ohioan, with few exceptions, is a TOSU fan; most have never touched the campus let alone the stadium. The explosion of PCs also helped the anti-Michigan sentiment where posters can hide behind their computers and "hate."

The state of Ohio, Cleveland (aka Mistake on the Lake), the Cavs, and LeBron all suck.

Just so we're clear.
