OT - Northern Lights Possibly Visible in Michigan Tonight
A Coronal Mass Ejection (a solar eruption) took place early Sunday and is heading toward earth. This "Solar Tsunami" as some are calling it could reach as far as Michigan, Maine, Seattle, and possibly Colorado (for all those MGoBloggers around the US). So late tonight or early tomorrow morning look into the northern sky and you might see something amazing

In other important space related news: August 12 after 11PM is the best time to see the Perseid meteor shower, which is the most prevelent meteor shower most years seen in the northern hemisphere
If you were in the UP, it'd be totally visible.
but doesn't "coronal mass ejection" just sound dirty?
but I guess it's better than "colonal mass ejection"
too much Corona you ended up in bathroom having a mass ejection
it looks like they should be visible here in the Chicago area (northern suburbs), but i'm worried about possible cloud cover. It's clear now, but there was rain forecast for later. Hoping it stays clear so I have shot at my first northern light show.

if you have never seen the northern lights they are damn impressive. Have slept underneath them way up in canada at fishing camps. Def a sight to see if you get a chance tonight.
How do I go looking for them? (Serious question)
1. Walk outside
2. Face South
3. Turn 180 degrees.
4. Walk and look up.
I was going to write a dickhead response.....but I pretty much set myself up for that one.
Any comments from Zoltan, as this is in fact space related news?

...... fucking double post
i don't see much AB from just south of A2, but there was a sweet meteor.
Aurora Borealis? In this part of the country, this time of year, localized in your kitchen?
Actually, I did notice some really dim flashing in the sky, no color, mostly in the south around 2 am. not sure it was the AB tho.
