The Wings select another Swede, BORK BORK BORK!, D - William Wallinder out of Sollefteå, Sweden.

Hes's ranked #32 on Future Considerations.

He skates smooth when he turns both with and without puck. He can play a two-way game and plays in all situations. While he doesn’t take any risks in his own zone, he always stands up against an opponent when he feels safe to do so. He seems to have good work ethic and works hard along the boards and is very effective with the poke checks because of his long reach. He could use his strength better when he battles along the boards.”

Elite Prospects has Wallinder ranked at 47 on their list — with high grades for skating, puck-handling, and average shooting/passing:

“The one constant? Through the good and the bad performances alike — Wallinder always skates well. He skates well enough that our Director of European Scouting based in Sweden, made him one of the only players with a 7-grade or higher for skating.

And apparently Kris Draper (DRAPES!) is a UM dad:

Already more deals in day two than there were during the 1st round. Matt Murray to Ottawa is interesting, he struggled last year, is going to have a really young defense in front of him. I'd think that MAF would be headed back to Pittsburgh after this but I can't see Vegas retaining any of his cap hit as they are currently over the cap after the Robin Lehner signing. There are a few teams that have an abundance of cap space and need a goalie, Buffalo and the Wings could be in the market there.

I didn't realize all three go to N Dakota. I think Sanderson could make the jump and play for the Senators this year but that's it. Though I think the way how the Senators are currently positioned, they're better off keeping him there and signing him to his ELC for the 21-22 season. Their D is pretty set for this season with 5 under contract and 1 RFA but they only have 3 forwards currently signed with another 5 RFA's getting the QO. Granted they have 9 non-roster contracted forwards and Stutzle who will be signed for this year, it's certainly weird times in the Canadian Capital.

Working the Yzer-plan to perfection.....draft is won in Rounds 2 through 7.....get a whole lot of picks and look for 2-3 of these players to be strong contributors down the line (a.k.a. Kucherov, Point, Cirelli,etc.).

can anyone give a summary of what to expect from the Wings 1st and 2nd round picks?  Were they good picks at where they were picked?  Or was this like the Lions taking a guy in the top 10 that would still be there at 22?

Granato on Stange
He's a great example of slowing down and going through the process of sport. He played baseball and we saw the home run that clinched the state championship. As a hockey player, he had a lot of pressure on him to leave high school early and play in the USHL. Tremendous academically. Did will in high school, did well in the Elite League. His maturity really helps him right now to battle through the toughness of the USHL. Great speed. He's going to be a fun person to add to our roster.

Projection and Comparison

Bednar has the talent to be a starting goalie but needs plenty of development going forward. Working with a top goalie coach to refine his natural talent would help him going forward. The natural talent is there but it is very raw right now. It is expected that Bednar will leave his Czech team in the near future, but with the concerns around the pandemic that could now be up in the air. If the CHL were to start on time next year, a couple of years in that league would help him get used to North American ice. It would also feature better shooters than the Czech junior league, while not having him in the Extraliga where he has been overmatched at times facing men. Bednar’s game is reminiscent of Jean-Sebastian Giguere, but this is a stylistic comparison only and not one based on skill and ability.
