OT: More love for Mathews
Havent seen many updates in the last few days about many of the Michigan Rookies trying to make it in the NFL (other than the fact that BG is going to destroy people).
Jeff Dickerson posts :Catch of the day came courtesy of undrafted rookie free-agent receiver Greg Mathews, who fully extended to haul in a diving grab down the seam during 11-on-11.
at the bottom of this article about the Bears day at training camp yesterday: http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4665413/versatile-clark-tops-depth-chart-at-h-back
No mention of Minor, and both of them are NOT locks to make the 53 man roster... but it's early, we'll see.
Anybody else hearing anything on some of the other rookies?

Thanks for the update on former players, but this definitely doesn't fall under the "off topic" category.

I think it throws people off that in the guide that Brian made it says something like "anything related to pro sports is off topic" but if a kid used to play for Michigan and is now a pro, it seems like a no-brainer that it would be on topic.

And in general I try to make a thread title as informative as possible, so OT or no OT... you know what you're clicking on

Mathews' profile says he was born in Honolulu, HA. Like it's a joke or something.

I was going to make fun of you for getting the postal abbreviation for Hawaii wrong, but I see it is actually ESPN that was wrong. Nice catch (no pun intended on a Greg Matthews thread)!

They must have interns doing the data entry, and I'm sure they get their interns from MSU.

That would explain the stories of sexual misbehavior coming out of Bristol these days.

I would really like to see Minor break out of camp on someone's roster. I think he could have been a real force in college if he could have stayed away from injury. I think he can be a decent second string guy in the NFL if he is healthy and someone gives him a chance.

I heard BG killed a Tyrannosaurus Rex in practice yesterday

Reports of UFOs over Foxboro have gone up since the start of training camp. Space Bitches!

Those are the upper atmosphere balloons that Zoltan uses for target practice.

On AM 780 this morning in Chicago, which is a headline news station, the discussion they had in their 30 second clip on the Bears was how awesome Greg Mathews has looked in camp. They were saying how he had separated himself from the pack, had great size at 6'2" 208, and had shown flashes of brilliance. Pretty encouraging stuff!

Haven't seen an article about him in a few weeks (last I heard he was well liked in camp; article was linked on here), but if these Revis shenanigans continue, we may be seeing D Warren in some pass packages on the Jets D. If Revis holds out for the season, Cromartie and Wilson will be the starters, but D Warren may be able to challenge Dwight Lowery (who has shown flashes but been inconsistent) for nickel.

I too have been concerned that with all the talk about DBs in Jets camp his name hasn't been coming up. Just today I finally saw him mentioned, but he was certainly not the focus:
"[DT Kris] Jenkins had a close call early in practice, when rookie S Donovan Warren fell on the back of his leg. Jenkins, coming off major knee surgery, said moments like that are 'confidence boosters. You need to have those fall-downs and get-back-ups.'"

Yeah, no new info there, but it reminds me that the Jets have him listed as a safety. This is conjecture on my part, but I think this designation was somewhat arbitrary, due to the solid DB depth on the Jets (assuming Revis plays). However, I think Warren could make a good NFL nickel back and has potential at free safety, as to some extent this is what he did for us last year as we didn't have the luxery of allowing him to play tight/shut down style as he had to help others in the defensive backfield.
In fact, I think the fact that he didn't get to showcase his man shutdown corner skills last year may have been somewhat responsible for his being undrafted, and his sense that he may not have been able to do so this year either may have been related to his decision to come out early.

Hope he sticks and makes Michigan fans proud.
