OT - Lions trade for Shaun Hill
The Lions traded today for QB Shaun Hill, giving up only a 7th round pick in 2011. I personally think that this is a great move, vastly improving their backup QB situation. Here is the link to the National Football Post article, for those interested.....

Solid pick up. He will be the best back up the Lions have had in a little while.
I hope Stafford stays healthy and continues to improve, but if something happens, at least they have a solid option to plug into the QB position. The best part is that they gave up almost nothing for him.
Still though, it looks like he was going to be released. Although a 7th round pick is basically nothing, they could have had him for free in a couple of weeks.
No guarantee though that he'd sign with them. God knows that if I'm a free agent QB, the Lions and their death valley for QBs is the last place I'd want to go.
Agreed.
Other than Stafford, I would argue he is the best QB the Lions have had in a while, not just back up. That shows the great talent level they have had over the years.
Bowl bound .
Lions will have more W's than Michigan this year.
Well maybe not, but I am encouraged with their direction
No thank you.
Not a chance.
If Tate gets hurt {impossible I know} you will be amongst the first to shat their pants:)
Last year I may have shat my pants. This year with Gardner, it won't be such a big deal.

let's start a freshman every year!
Obviously that's not what I wish to happen, but at least the season isn't lost if we end up having to play Gardner.
wouldn't that be nice
For honesty. It should be close. I think for both Michigan and the Lions 7-8 wins is a nice, realistic goal.

M: 8*
*Regular season only, as I cannot predict the bowl game until I see the matchup
I didn't see it so many posts below the original
Browns Lions . I wish I had some bud good enough to imagine that .
Definitely can be a solid back up for us next year if Stafford unfortunately gets injured again.

I was hoping we'd go after Delhomme, but he can probably get himself a much better situation than this.
He signed with the Browns a few days back. I'm not sure if that qualifies as a better situation though.

Say bye-bye to Culpepper.
Hill is a solid QB and can help in a spot duty. I prefer a vet but Hill is a better alternative than Culpepper.
Based on what? Losing his starting job to Alex Smith one of the worst #1 overall picks ever. A 56% completion rate in a west coast offense is Joey Harringtonesqe and 5 1/2% below his career average. His QB rating was also down significantly from his career average. Interestingly, Alex Smith's completion % and QB rating were both higher than Hills and above his career averages.
For those who say they wanted a veteran, Hill has 9 years experience.

Yeah, good move. If we didn't have Stafford, I think Hill would be an okay starter, and I think he'll be a great backup. It Stafford gets hurt, Hill will be ready. How long is he under contract? I hate it when teams have a new backup QB every year--I think it would be much better if they had someone relatively (in NFL terms) long-term. The best example I can think of is Todd Collins, who spent five years as a backup, but amazingly never started for the Chiefs, then was a backup for the Redskins for another few years (and proved to still have it in leading them to the playoffs in 2007).
Where does this leave Stanton? Are they still trying to make him into an adequate backup, or is he stuck as a third-stringer?

Ty Detmer would also fit in this category.
If you're talking about 7 interceptions in one game category Ty Detmer would fit perfectly. Otherwise he was completely awful for the leos.

Not a blockbuster move by any means, but this is definitely a good trade. This guy will get hurt just as fast as Stafford did last year if the Offensive line, or lack thereof, isn't addressed in the draft to some degree.

With the Lions offensive line it is smart to have as many good QB options as you can, because your probably gonna need all of them

What about Scott Dreisbach and the GREAT Drew Henson ? Great backups .
The Lions are making moves that I actually like??? What I think may be very interesting now is the #2 draft pick. I would really like to see the Lions get Suh, but I am more in favor of the Lions trading down. The Browns (since they traded Quinn and released Anderson) will be looking to move up to ensure they get Bradford or Clausen. Now, Cleveland would have to pay us enough to make it worth it (maybe switch picks this year, their 2nd rd pick and 1st rounder next year?), but picking 7th wouldn't be the worst thing ever. We have to remember that although Suh may be a great player (whom we aren't guaranteed to get) we still need to build this team and fill holes. Bulunga, Trent Williams, Bruce Campbell, Haden, Derrick Morgan (not my first choice), BG (heart), etc...would all be decent picks. Plus the extra second round pick would be nice. We could fill 3 holes in the first two rounds.
I'm hoping the Seahawks decide they have to have somebody at the top of the draft and are willing to trade picks with the Lions. The Seahawks have the 6th and 14th picks in the first round, and those picks would be ideal for the Lions to get help at CB, OL, or RB, which seem to be the positions they currently need the most help at.
Also, I highly doubt the Lions would go after BG...but I would love for them to do so!
