OT- Lions to retain Patricia and Quinn in 2020
Figured they would get another year with this only being year 2 together, and all the injuries. They have looked pretty terrible, horrible, no good , very bad though...
December 17th, 2019 at 4:27 PM ^
The Lions are a model of consistency.

OK, but if you look closely there is a scrape on this bumper. That scrape is somehow the cause of the disaster that unfolded. Therefore, the bus driver deserves another opportunity to take the same trip with new passengers next year!!!

Well done, sir!

Lions Mission Statement:
"If there's one thing we do right, it's doing things poorly."
December 17th, 2019 at 4:28 PM ^
Whhhhhyyyyyyyyyyy
December 17th, 2019 at 6:37 PM ^
Because it’s what the Ford’s do, terrible owners!
December 17th, 2019 at 4:42 PM ^
Is there something firm behind this statement? When I read the rumor today, it seemed plausible. Martha booted Jr out of the way, so to me, she either hands control over to her daughter, or sells.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
If she is planning to sell why can Quinn and Patricia? That's a pain. Hire all new people and sign them to long contracts. Let the new owner being his own people in.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:21 PM ^
This. Why fire them and deal with that knowing you’re not in control soon. Also let’s the new person do what they want. Even if that’s retaining them. Don’t make decisions for the new owner right before giving them the keys.
December 17th, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
Fuck!
December 17th, 2019 at 4:30 PM ^
Lol 9-7 wasn't good enough to keep Caldwell but 3-12-1 is good enough for Patricia. Martha is continuing the family legacy of destroying the Lions.
December 17th, 2019 at 4:53 PM ^
9-7 also wasn't good enough for a very vocal portion of the fanbase. I guess they're somehow used to greater success?
We fired our winningest coach in four decades after only four years. We deserve our lot.
December 17th, 2019 at 6:55 PM ^
I was amazed that Caldwell did that well and was happy to keep him. As a Metro Detroiter who watches the Lions because they’re the home team, his was record was “good enough” and even on the verge of great considering the mediocrity of countless seasons.
December 17th, 2019 at 7:04 PM ^
It's not that we're used to greater success, but that everyone could see that Caldwell hit the ceiling. We would never do better than 9-7 and no playoff wins. Not good enough.
December 17th, 2019 at 9:50 PM ^
The good thing at least with Patricia is you don't even have to worry about adding to that number of losses in the playoff stat.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:28 PM ^
Only the Lions can fire a completely mediocre coach like Caldwell and hire someone that, within 2 years, makes him look like the franchise’s modern day Lombardi.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:43 PM ^
Jim Caldwell == Jason Garrett
He's an OK coach. Just OK. You might get a good year or two out of him. Average record will hover around 0.500. If the division sucked he'd probably still be coaching the Lions too, and would have made the playoffs more than that one time
Caldwell looks good compared to Patricia, but he wasn't getting the Lions any closer to winning anything.
I mean...if Caldwell was that good of a coach surely another NFL team would hire him, right?
December 17th, 2019 at 5:47 PM ^
Caldwell went to the playoffs twice.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:57 PM ^
But that’s not the point.
If you fire a coach like Caldwell because a record like 9-7 isn’t good enough, then surely you have a plan in place to improve on that. Especially when the new coach is your personally hand picked boy.
Well two years in and not only have they not improved but, barring an upset over these last 2 weeks, Patricia is going to have 1/3 the number of wins this season from two seasons ago.
December 17th, 2019 at 6:14 PM ^
Caldwell went to the playoffs twice in his first three years, compared to the one time they made the playoffs in the fourteen years prior. I'd say that's getting the Lions closer to winning something.
December 17th, 2019 at 4:36 PM ^
Disappointed for sure and honestly a bit surprised. So much for Bezos coming in and saving the day on his Prime steed.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:09 PM ^
Or it could mean Martha is more likely to sell. No point to making changes if your selling the team in the near future.
December 17th, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
I agree with this. If you're thinking about selling the team it makes more sense to keep the existing GM and HC in place but give them a short leash. A new owner can take over and make his own decision about what to do with them based on the team's trajectory in 2020. He's only stuck with them for a year and maybe not even that if the team does poorly enough. If Martha Ford brings in new people she'll have to offer longer-term deals with buyouts, which would tie a new owner's hands.
December 17th, 2019 at 4:36 PM ^
What a roller coaster of a ride today from Jeff Bezos may buy the team to the clown show is back.
December 17th, 2019 at 4:49 PM ^
The value of Lions just went down after the announcement of keep Quinn and Patricia, so it was a perfect strategy for Bezos to wait.

December 17th, 2019 at 5:15 PM ^
The value went up since the new owner would get the opportunity to make popular moves right away.
December 17th, 2019 at 4:41 PM ^
When's the last time the Lions won more than 12 games in the regular season?
December 17th, 2019 at 4:53 PM ^
Never. Won 12 in 1991 and have never won more than that.
December 17th, 2019 at 6:10 PM ^
Fewer games were played back in the day. 13-3 is .813. The only season that surpasses that is 1953, 10-2, .833 (that was their 3rd championship season, 2nd in a row). For double digit regular season wins prior to 16-game seasons (1978): they were 11-3 .786 in 1931, 10-3 .769 in 1934, 11-3 in 1962, 10-4 .714 in 1970.
9-3 is .750, 1952 (champions) & 1956, and 9-2-1 is .792, 1954.
December 17th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
I have to keep re-reading “champions” and “Lions” in the same post. Still doesn’t look right.
December 17th, 2019 at 9:04 PM ^
Hey, they were 3-1 in championship games in the 50s. All vs the Cleveland Browns.
December 17th, 2019 at 9:39 PM ^
The lions had some damn good players back in the day. Legendary players.
December 17th, 2019 at 4:41 PM ^
Can’t wait to see what Patricia and Quinn have in store for next year!

“The male scissor”
December 17th, 2019 at 4:45 PM ^
The Fords won't sell the Lions. It's an entertaining way for them to make easy money.
Was really hoping McCarthy would be contacted.
December 17th, 2019 at 4:48 PM ^
They will draft Shea and make the Super Bowl.
December 17th, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
Lions might as well should just hire Pep Hamilton and have Jedd Fisch as GM.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:03 PM ^
They had Matt Millen running the team for 7 years. It's hardly possible to joke about them hiring someone worse.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:01 PM ^
SOL, baby!
December 17th, 2019 at 5:15 PM ^
Gives them a whole year to find replacements.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:19 PM ^
*stops, vomits on own shoes*
*continues to walk*
December 17th, 2019 at 5:22 PM ^
At least they're not the Cleveland Browns...
December 17th, 2019 at 11:36 PM ^
That's weird considering the Browns are better.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:22 PM ^
At least they're not the Cleveland Browns...
am i rite, folks!?
December 17th, 2019 at 5:29 PM ^
Stafford is on the verge of getting his 3rd head coach fired.
Will he get a 4th fired? Or will the Lions move on...
December 17th, 2019 at 5:34 PM ^
The worst defense in Lions history called to tell you Stafford was awesome before was hurt.
December 17th, 2019 at 5:41 PM ^
Keep defending him. Just don't expect any different results...
